Part twenty-six: Switching Jobs
Underground HQ
Batman sneaked in the headquarters, successfully passing through the guards.
"Batgirl, we're in." Nightwing whispered, pressing his ear piece.
He was in a different location with Katie, looking at the guards by a metal door.
"We all are," Robin said, looking at Oracle who was wearing a black and purple uniform similar to Batgirl's.
"I second that," Red Hood said.
Back at the hotel, Kara typed on her laptop, watching Robin and the others using the security cameras.
"Turn to the left and head straight. Do it quick 'cause there's no way out but the entrance." She said, holding the mic on her headset.
Batman acted quick, getting inside the control room without any trouble.
"I'm disabling the security cameras," she said, gritting her teeth.
"You won't be able to see us." Batman said.
"I put a hidden camera on Robin, Nightwing, Hood, Red, and you, B-man. Just before you left, actually." She shrugged, drinking her glass of strawberry milk.
"You didn't tell us?" He asked, walking towards the computer.
"Not all of us," Robin interjected. "She told me."
"Oh, tell your boyfriend, nice move from Batgirl." Nightwing said with a smug smirk. Kara rolled her eyes and typed into her laptop.
"He's not my boyfriend."
"And she is definitely not my girlfriend."
"Psh,"
Red Hood chuckled, inserting a magazine in his guns. He and Orphan were guarding the entrance of the underground hideout while Robin and Oracle watched the men gathered in the hideout's meeting room.
"Deadshot and Deathstroke are here." Robin muttered through gritted teeth, tempted to rip off the old man's head. When Batgirl heard the name Deadshot, her eyes went furious.
"Deadshot? Did I hear you right?" She asked, her hands balling into fists. Robin can hear the anger and practically imagined the gritted teeth of Kara Gordon when she asked him that. He can't blame her, he was beyond mad when he saw Deathstroke.
"Yes," he said. "But we're not here to attack. Are we?"
"No," Batman said, pulling out the USB now full of new information. "Everyone, head out. We're done here."
|Damian seemed off the next day. He had his eyebrows furrowed the whole time during breakfast.|
"Are you alright?" Kara asked, looking up from her food to look at Damian across from her, only to find out that he was staring at her. He shook his head, deciding to be true to her since she practically put up with his crap every day.
"No, I'm not," he said. "And don't you dare ask me why, Grayson and older Gordon."
Kara chuckled at Damian's nickname for her sister and looked at the couple. They were both lifting an eyebrow at the moody teenager sitting with them with weirded looks.
"Okay?" Barbara questioned more than answered.
Damian sighed and got up from his seat, walking out of the dining area. Kara groaned, dropping her utensils.
"I'll go talk to him." She said, following Damian out of the dining area. She followed him towards the elevator and when he tried to close it faster, she grabbed the elevator doors and opened them with such power.
"Mind tagging along?" She asked, her lips forming into a fake smile. Damian groaned when she got in and the elevator closed.
"Okay," she said. "What's wrong, Wayne?"
Damian didn't dare to look her in the eye and release all his anger on her. He just wanted to be alone.
"Nothing," he replied when the doors opened. He quickly got out, but Kara kept up with his pace.
"You just said that you're not alright. That meant something is wrong." She said, grabbing his arm. She stopped him from walking and Damian rolled his eyes.
"Forget it, then." He said, obviously annoyed. Kara groaned, slapping her palm on her forehead.
"Damian Wayne, I am trying to help you here. You said you want to know what it feels like to have a friend-no-a best friend, right? Now, I'll let you feel how a friend comforts their friend." She said sternly, successfully meeting his eyes with her own. Damian stared down at her, wondering how a girl like her can be so intimidating.
"I don't want to talk about it here." He said, grabbing her arm. He led her to his and Tim's room and locked the door.
"Okay," Kara said. "Explain."
"It's about Deathstroke," he said, scratching the back of his neck. "When I saw him last night, something just clicked. I was-no-I am angry at him. He--"
"He killed you grandfather, helped Brother Blood on capturing you and the Titans to be some sacrifice or whatever." Kara cutted in. "He took me to the League of Assassins when I was six, Damian. He made them beat me up until I'm almost dead. Good thing your grandfather saw me."
Damian's eyes widened. He didn't know about her getting beaten up by assassins. It made him even more angry at Slade.
"What did you say?" He asked, looking dowm at his feet.
"Doesn't matter," she said.
"What do you mean it doesn't matter!? He tortured you, Kara! You almost died!" He yelled, looking up at her with furious eyes.
"Damian, calm down. It doesn't matter because I can take care of myself now. I can defend myself better." She said. "But, this is about you. Why we are talking here is because of you, not me."
"Bu--"
"No, Damian. Don't worry, Slade won't hurt me. You and the others are here." She said with a small smile, grabbing his arms. Suddenly, all the anger flowed away from Damian's body. He sighed, resting his forehead on her shoulder. Kara slowly wrapped her arms around his torso, embracing the young Wayne.
"I'm here for you, too, Wayne." She whispered.
"Thank you,"
"Woah! Hold on, there!" She exclaimed, pulling away. She grinned, looking at Damian's confused face.
"Did you just say thank you?" She asked. Damian lifted an eyebrow, nodding. Kara giggled, pulling her phone out of her sweatpants.
"Say it again, I'm gonna record it this time." She said, looking up at the young Wayne. He smirked, shaking his head.
"I'd rather not, Gordon. You'll tell everyone." He said, folding his arms over his chest. Kara groaned and shook his shoulders.
"Come on! Please?"
"No."
"Wayne!"
"Gordon!"
