The next day was a particulary busy one. Since the moon year ball had been moved, servents were hurrying all around the castle trying to decorate in time for the ball, which was one day away. Kara had been ordered by Jace to pick a dress to wear, and it had to be black, The servents all brought in a cart of floor length black evening dresses. Kara chose the simplest one, not wanting to stick out any more then she did. The dress was made of silk, and floor length. It had a simple black sash, and one strap going over the shoulder. " I don't need anything else with my hair.." Kara thought to herself as she twisted a curly golden lock.
She then went in search of Erik, for there was nothing else to do. She found him helping workers move in an ice sculpture. After it was delivered to the cold dungeons, he turned to her and said " So did you find a dress" smirking. Kara rolled her eyes at him. " Yes I did actually. Just one question, why are they all black?". " Thats the ritual color what else would it be...." Erik said giving her a werid look.
The following day moved quickly, and before Kara knew it she was getting dressed for the ball. " How would you like your hair miss?" a pretty dark haired servent asked. "Oh, well....I don't know" Kara stammered. She hadnt thought about it at all. " I have an idea" the girl said smiling. About 15 minutes later, Karas golden curls were fixed into a braided messy side chignon. A few small curls hung dow and framed her face. " It's beautiful" Kara said, turning side to side to admire it. The girl giggled and said "Thank you miss. Now how about makeup". " Oh I don't usually wear makeup....." Kara said. " Let's just try a little" the servent said. She sweeped black mascara over Kara's lashes, and highlighted her cheek bones. " Done" she said. "Now hurry, or you'll be late for the ball"
The large doors to the ballroom were held open by two gaurds, and Kara's breath caught into her throat as she entered the room. Everything was decorated in white and sparkles. Long pieces of sparkling white cloth were draped around the ceiling, and there was a magnificant large crystal chandelier hanging at the center of the room. Candles were placed all around, and an ice scuplture of a peculiar looking flower was at the end of the room. The large colums at the ends of the rooms were decorated in white flowers, and there were people everywhere. Just as Kara expected, people began to stare at her when she entered the room. Some weirdly, others curious. Kara lowered her head, and felt someone bush up behind her. " Awkward isn't it" Jasper said, his purple eyes looking at the crowd. "Don't be too judgemental, they havent seen anyone like you before". Kara sighed and said "Do I really stick out that much". " Like a star in the night sky" Jasper said smiling before gliding away. Kara stood there, processing what he had just said and smiled a little bit. There was something about him, that just seemed so familiar. Someone tapped her on the shoulder, and Kara turned around. Jace was standing behind her, in a tux, smiling with one of the white flowers in his hands. " Here" he said, looking at Kara smiling. Kara took the rose and smiled back "It's beautiful". " Would you care to dance?" Jace asked her, holding out his hand. Kara gave him a weird look and put her hand in his. They glided to the center of the dance floor, and Kara realized something. " Jace" she hissed. " I don't know how to dance". Jace laughed and said " Don't worry. Just follow my lead".
The next four minutes were the most embrarassing of Kara's life. She stumbled and stepped on Jace's feet, and by the end of the dance Jace was laughing so hard tears were streaming down his face. " Kara.." he started to say but he only laughed harder. Kara began to laugh with him, and soon the two were laughing so hard they had to leave dance floor." I'm going to get some fresh air" Kara said, and Jace just nodded and sat down, drinking a glass of blue liquid.
Kara went out onto the balcony right outside of the hallway. She took a breath of fresh air, and began to laugh again. Krack. Kara whirled around, but no one was there. " Hello?" she called cautiously, peering into the hallway. Her breath caught in her throat, as she walked back into the hallway. No one was there, except a few servents at the very end of the hall talking about some snooty guests. " Kara?" Jasper called walking up to her, looking concerned. " Is everything ok?". "No" Kara said, realizing what was going on. " I need to find Jace".
Her breath caught in her throat and her heart started to beat faster and faster. " I have to find Jace" she repeated again her eyes growing wide. " Wait, wait wait" Jasper said, putting his hands on Kara's shoulders. "Whats going on what's wrong". Kara heard another crack from the woods and whirled around, then one from the side. Her face was filled with terror, and she bolted inside. She barely made it five steps before she collapsed." I....can't...breathe" she said between short spirratic breaths. Jasper ran behind Kara and tried to help her up. "Your having a panic attack" he said, trying to calm her down. She nodded, her breathing becoming more regular. Jasper looked up and surveyed the woods, eyeing it suspiciously."There is something here" he said calmly looking back at Kara. He helped her up and said "You go get Jace. I'm going to stay here and look around"
Kara stumbled back to the ballroom, barely able to put one foot in front of the other. Shadows from the corners of the room seemed to climb up the walls and reach their spidery fingers out to grab her. One grabbed a lock of her hair and she screamed as she burst into the ballroom. A few guests turned to look at her with confusion and worry. Kara didn't care. "Jace, Jace, Jace" was all she repeated in her head. She stumbled again, this time almost falling flat on her face. An older gentleman caught her and took her by her arm. "Sweetheart, are you ok?" he said looking concerned and partly scared. "I'm....fine" Kara whispered, standing up straight again. The shadows had come back now, slipping between cracks underneath the door, their spidery hands grabbing at Kara's arms and ankles. She turned, not seeing the shadows, and saw Jace across the floor. She bolted over to him, trying to catch his eye. Instead, she met eyes with Erik. He smiled at her and was just about to point to her at Jace, when he turned back as his mind registered the look she wore on her face. He roughly pushed through the crowd to get to her. "Whats going on?" he demanded quickly. " Theres something.." Kara started to say, but Jace came to stand next to Erik. "What happened." Jace said, looking very worried. "Theres something, in the forest, watching me" Kara stammered. "Theres shadows....coming from the walls trying to grab my ankles and arms and pull me away" she finished, almost having another panic attack. Erik's eyes almost bulged out of his head. "Jace" he said, turning to his best friend looking scared out of his mind. Jace's mouth was hanging open and he looked terrified. "Grab her" he yelled, dashing out of the room and opening the door as wide as it could go. Before she could protest, Erik scooped Kara up into his arms and the other way out of the room.
Half the people at the party where already drunk by then, so no one noticed the commotion that had stirred. "Put me down!!!" Kara wailed as Erik carried her away. He didn't respond, but put her down once they were far away from the ballroom. "What's going on?" she screamd at him, brushing a few stray locks out of her eyes. "SHUTUP" Erik screamed at the top of his lungs. This silenced Kara." This is bad. REALLY BAD" he looked scared for his life, as he kept glancing around to make sure they werent being watched. Kara looked at him, and felt a sudden rush of emotions. Guily, anxiety, hope, terror, and anger. She didn't know why, but something was pulling her to where she had left Jasper. "Im not going back. I'm not that stupid". After 10 more seconds, Kara had to give in. It was like an electromagnetic foce. She turned and ran back through the ballroom, with Erik chasing after her all the way.
