Chapter 2
When Kara woke up, she was lying on the stone floor. “ Ughh” she moaned as the rubbed the back of her head. It felt wet, and as she brought her hand to her face, she saw it was covered in blood. Quckly standing up, she surveyed her surroundings. She was in an all black brick room with bars on one end. It was a dungeon cell, but there were no castles near my house she thought. She walked to the front of the bars, and peered out. There was a long dark hallway, with about 10 other cells like her. On the cell opposite her, there was another girl. She had long blond hair, that was stick straight. Her wide grey eyes watched Kara as she looked around. The girl was absolutely tiny for her age, and her face was covered in freckles.
Mina watched the girl acros from her as she woke up. She was wearing weird clothes, Mina thought to herself. A grey shirt, and weird blue pants, with black boots. Her long golden brown hair curled up at the ends, and cascaded down her thin narrow sholders. Her beautiful green eyes looked around, wide with fright. She was the most different girl Mina had ever seen, and one of the most beautiful. She wasn’t from here, Mina thought. She’s different, and they need her for some reason.
Kara caught the tiny girl staring at her, and returned the stares. The little girl smiled, and was just about to say something, when the large wooden doors at the end of the hall opened. 5 men in armor walked down the hallway, and roughly opened Kara’s cell. Her breath caught in her throat, as two men grabbed her from either side and began to pull her down the hall. She and the tiny girl traded glances one last time. She small girl looked scared to the bone, her wide grey eyes filling with tears. That’s when Kara knew she was going to die.
The men lead her down the long hall, and up set of twisted stairs. Then , they entered the top part of the castle. It was lavishly decorated in red and black, with gold statues around every corner. As maids walked by, the would lift their eyes and stare at Kara, captivated by her green eyes and pale complexion. When they reached a set of gold doors, the soldiers stopped. One of them, who must have been the chief, turned around to talk to her. “Name” he said roughly. “Kkkara” Kara stumbled out, her eyes widening. The man nodded, and continued to speak “ You are know a prisoner of the King. You are not speak until spoken too, and you are not allowed to look a the king until he speaks to you. Understood?” the man said, softer this time. “ Yes” Kara said bravely, looking straight into the mans eyes.
The gold doors opened, to reveal a grand hallway. It was covered in gold, with pictures from thousands of years ago covering the walls. At the end of the wall, were three thrones. Two small ones, and a large one in between them. They were all made of gold, the arms covered in emeralds and rubies. Kara’s head was forced down, as she heard the sound of footsteps enter the large room. She was shoved to the floor, and felt a knife being held against her back. It seemed like an eternity until someone spoke. “ Let her go” said a male voice, coming from one the thrones. The men did what they were told, and exited the room. Kara stood up, and finally saw the figures sitting on the thrones. Two were in black robes, like the figure in her room had been. The one in the middle was also in a black robe, but it was covered in gold designing, leaving space only for where the face should be. Kara’s breath caught in her throat, and her heart skipped a beat.
The middle and the far left figure stood up, gesturing for her to come with them. She walked behind them, trembling all over. She couldn’t even get one foot in front of another. They entered a small room, with a gold floor and red walls. It was completely empty, except for a table in the small corner. The figures took off their robes, and Kara finally saw who they were. The one in the plain robe, was a boy of about 15. He had dark brown curly hair, which hung lopsided over his turquois eyes. His eyes popped against the natural tan of his skin. He stared at Kara for a minute, then put his robe in a drawer on the table. The next figure, the king, began to take off his robe. It revealed another boy of about 15 or 16, with the same eyes and skin, but with straight black hair that hung to the side, that sometimes hung in his eyes. He, like the other body, stared at Kara, before putting his robe in the drawer. He reached in the second drawer, and took out a dagger. He caught Kara staring at the dagger, and smirked. “ You are here to help us perform an ancient ritual, of immortality” the curly haired one spoke. “ My name is Erik, and that is King Jace. But you knew that already.” Kara shot him a quizzical look, but didn’t speak. The ritual started. Saying words in a language Kara couldn’t understand, Erik began holding the blade. After a few seconds, he came over to Kara, and took her arm. He then sliced it with the blade, so she was openly bleeding. Kara gasped, and the pain hit her. Erik held her arm out, and Jace walked over with a goblet. It was completely gold, and had carvings across the basin. There were dark black stones covering the bottom, and the cup itself created an air of uncertainty. It as filled with what looked like purple liquid. Erik walked over to her and took a few drops of her blood, and added it to the weird concoction. Kara’s eyes filled with tears, as the pain became harder to bear. Jace then looked at Erik, then her, and drank the cup. As soon as he drank it, Erik began to wrap Kara’s arm with gauze. He had to wrap it many times, because the blood kept leaking through. He finally wrapped it enough, so her arm would heal. Jace then began to talk quietly with Erik, and Kara couldn’t make out what they were saying. Jace then turned to her and said “ Someone will take you back to the cell”. Giving her one last odd look, he and Erik turned and left the room.
