As she sat in the carriage, she looked at the surroundings. Purple velvet covered the seats, and the windows were crystal clear with stained glass around the edges. Jace and Erik moved in to take the two seats across from her. Kara shifted uncomfortably in her seat, as she wondered how awkward this ride would be. " So...." Erik began, looking out the window. " How old are you?" he said awkwardly flashing her a weak smile. Jace caught the smile and rolled his eyes, resting his face on his hand as he tried to sleep. " 15.." Kara said uncomforably as she shifted in her seat. " Im 16" Erik replied, trying to smile. " HA. I'm 17" Jace retorted loudly, his eyes still closed. Kara raised her eyebrows at him, and Erik just turned away and snorted. " Jace turns 17 in 2 weeks" he informed Kara. She nodded her head and pretended she cared. As she looked outside the window, she could see the carriage riding past miles of open countryside, and thick dense forest. The rays from the sun trickled down into the darkness of the woods, creating a magical and mysterious feel. Over the tops of the hills, Kara spotted the outline of a grand city. A large castle, shining in the light loomed from the distance, looking more magnificant then before. " So am I going to be locked away in the dungeon again?" Kara blurted out without thinking. Jace slowly opened his eyes and said " Well, if your a good girl then no. Remember the 'little talk' we had earlier? Keep that in mind." with that being said he returned to his sleeping postition. Erik looked confused, and muttered "Little Talk" under his breath before turning away and looking out the window. The rest of the ride was in complete silence.
When they arrived at the castle, they were immedietly swarmed by servents. Trying to get through the crowd, Jace grabbed Kara's arm and pulled her through leaving Erik to fend for himself. "um, thanks" Kara said awkwardly. Jace gave her a blank stare. " Your room is this way, but If I were you I wouldn't get too comfortable because knowing you, you'll be back into the dungeon by night" he said sarcastically. Offended Kara replied " Excuse me, but If you were going to get your arm cut open every month you wouldnt be too happy about it!". " Oh please" Jace scowled back. " Its nothing. It doesnt even hurt". " Well not for you since you can't die" Kara said, clearly frusterated. " You only want my blood for selfish reasons, only for you. Have you ever cared about anyone besides yourselff?" Jace whirled around, an inch from Kara's face. His face was suprisingly calm, but she could see the rage twinkling in his eyes. " You don't know me" was all he said before he turned around and continued down the hall. " You don't know me" Kara mimicked rolling her eyes, and followed him down the hall. They came to a set of wooden double doors at the far end of a hallway. Jace kicked the door before walking down the hallway, and turning the corner. Kara stood looking around for a few seconds, before entering the room.
The first thing she noticed was the large window. It cascaded over the whole side wall, giving a beautiful view of the city below. The floor was an intricate gold, red, and black tile. On the far side of the bed there was a four-poster bed, with bloodred sheets. There was an enterance to a closet on the right wall, and a bathroom right beside it. On the wall oppostite of the bed, there was a large vanity, which was made of wood and so intricatly carved that Kara couldn't take her eyes off of it. As soon as she got a few steps into the room, someone cleared their throat behind her. Expecting to see Jace, Kara whirled around ready talk. Instead, she found Erik. " Oh...I didn't mean to um...scare you.." he stammered smiling. " No its fine" Kara flatly replied. " ok." erik replied. " I would just like to apologize on behalf of Jace's behavior. He's usually not...well..actually yes he is.." he said. " Kara just shrugged her shoulders and went and sat down on one side of her bed. "So, do you like the room.?" Erik said, trying to make conversation. " Yeah its beautiful" Kara replied, staring out the window. Erik smiled. " Well if you need anything, you should probably come to me. Since Jace doesn't really like you too much..." he said, walking out of the room. " Ok thanks" Kara replied throwing him a fake smile. As soon as the door shut, she burst into tears and sobbed into her pillow. Her tears eventually pulled her into a deep restless sleep.
It must have been late when she woke up. It was dark outside, and the lights from the streets of the city were turned off. Kara's stomach rumbled as she sat up on her bed. " Where do you eat around here" she wondered out loud. Sliding off her bed, she walked over to her door and opened it. The hallway was completely dark, lit only by the rays of the two moons. Shivers crept up Kara's spine, as she stepped into the long hallway. As she walked down, she heard people's voices. " Maybe they can tell me where to go" Kara thought, as she turned the corner. Quickly, before she could react, two hands reached around and grabbed her, slamming her head against the wall until everything went completely black.
