Kara woke about an hour later, and sat up. Her eyes were bleary from sleep, and her hair was dishelved and wild from sleeping on it. She rubbed her eyes and lay back down, curling into a ball to try and keep herself warm. She couldn't sleep. "Erik?" she said quietly. "Yeah" Erik whispered quietly, trying not to wake Jace. "I don't think I can forgive him" she said quietly, biting her lip. "You don't have too" Erik said. "I wouldn't".
"Get up" Kara heard someone say and she opened her eyes. It was stil dark out, and she must have fallen asleep again. "It's your turn" the voice said again. Kara sat up and pulled her messy hair out of her face. "Who is that?" she murmered, still half asleep. "Jace" Jace said sadly. Kara stood up and looked at him in the torchlight. His clothes were rumpled, and his hair scattered. His eyes were dull and meaningless, and he no expression on his face. "Thanks..." Kara mumbled, pulling herself up and putting her hair into a ponytail. Jace didn't move. "What are you doing?" Kara asked, a wave of sleepiness washing over her. "I...." Jace started, running his hands through his hair. "You what.." she replied softly, looking down at the ground. "I....I....." he started, his face turning red in the torchlight. Kara gave him a weird look and said "Just go to sleep Jace". Jace hesitated, then slumped over to his bed, kicking a tree before he laid down.
Kara leaned her back against a tall tree near where Jace and Erik were sleeping. Her eyes danced from the dark bushes across the road, to the twisted path the road made behind them. She signed and wrapped her arms around herself trying to keep warm. She heard either Jace or Erik turn over in their sleep, and she closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she pulled herself away from the tree, and walked into the middle of the road. The only source of light was a small torch left over from Jace's watch. Kara kicked at a small pebble on the ground, and rubbed her arms. The wind rustled the trees, sending an icy breeze. Kara took her hair out of her messy ponytail and started to french braid it. She dusted some stray dirt off of her boot and leggings, and scanned the road. Nothing. An hour and a half passed by.
"Get up" Kara whispered as she gently nudged Erik who was curled in a ball snoring. "Get up!" she said louder nudging him again. "ughhh" he groaned and rolled over, sitting up. "Your turn" Kara said as she ruffled his hair. Erik smiled and stood up, his eyes sleepy. "What time is it?" Kara asked. "I dunno?" Erik said, stumbling. He sat against the tree and was back asleep in a minute. Kara stared. "Erik...." she groaned and stumbled over to him. "Whattt" he asked sleepily. "Your supposed to be standing gaurd" Kara said annoyed. "K" he said, standing up and shaking his head, trying to wake himself up. "You sure" Kara asked looking at him. "Go to bed" he said smiling at her. "goodnight" Kara said, walking over to her blanket ,and collapsing on the ground.
"MORNING" Erik screamd into Kara's ear. "Erik" she mumbled, rolling over onto her stomach. "Get up lazy girl! If you want breakfast you better start walking!". "Walking?" Kara asked, sitting up. "We need to get to town" Jace said behind her. Kara turned around. His messy hair was now tamed, and he looked powerful, not weak like last night. "Fine" Kara said standing up. "Leave the blankets" Jace said. "We don't need them anymore".
It took 5 hours to walk to the town. By the end of the walk, even Erik was irritated. "Thank the skies we finally made it" he huffed, stumbling over to a well to get water. Kara wiped sweat from her forhead, and slumped against a bench, closing her eyes. Jace was the only one who looked completely fine. "It wasn't that bad" he protested, crossing his arms and kicking at the ground. "Shutup" Erik said, wiping water from off his chin. They walked further into the town, until they came across a small resturaunt. "Breakfast" Erik said, his eyes becoming wide.
After a huge meal, Jace disappeared off somewere, leaving Erik and Kara to wander the town. "Where the hell did he go?" Kara said annoyed. "Who cares" Erik responded. "I don't mean to pester anyone, but can you please-". "No" Erik interrupted. "I didn'tt finish" Kara said annoyed. "I knew what you were going to say" Erik said, looking at her. "It's not time". "Time..." Kara repeated. "So theres a special time now? I see". "Don't get upset with me!" Erik protested. "I'm following Jace's orders, and he would kill me if i said anything". "Why are you so scared of him??" Kara said quietly. "If he's your best friend, he wouldn't hurt you." Erik was silent for a minute before speaking. "I know he would.". Kara looked up at him and said "Then why do you stick around him....why don't you just leave? If he's really that terrible..." she said, her voice trailing off. Erik turned towards her "I would never leave him. He needs me." ." Such a complicated relationship....." Kara said her voice trailing off. "It really is..." Erik said running his hand through his hair. "I know he means well sometimes....but he has the tendency to go....insane". Kara nodded, pushing her sleeves up. "Where is he?" she added. "He disappeared..". "Probably went to take out his anger on someones house......" Erik smirked. "The sad thing is, it's true" Kara laughed. "Look friends" said a voice. Kara and Erik turned around and Erik raised his eyebrows. Jace was leaning out of a large carriage, with an ignorant smirk on his face. "I got us a ride home. Once again, while you two were lollygagging around, I had to go get something done.". "How did you get that? We didn't pass any carriage stops or anything...." Kara said crossing her arms. "Someone was kind enough to lend it to me," Jace said quickly before popping back inside. Kara looked at Erik, who was squiting at the carriage and followed him inside.
The inside of the carriage was not as extravagent as the other. The seats were a dark soft black material, and an old worn red carpet was placed on the floor. The windows were slightly dirty, but the carriage was very large and roomy. "Where did you get this...?" Erik said, looking around. "I borrowed it from someone.....". "Borrowed..?" Kara asked looking at the blood stain on the red carpet. "Yes" Jace said looking at her. "Care to question me?". "I'm fine" Kara said crossing her legs and looking at the ceiling. Jace gave a sinister smile. "Did you" Erik whispered, turning to Jace. "Yes, but don't be too loud. I don't want HER to flip out...". Erik rolled his eyes and Kara crinclked her eyebrows, shaking her head. "You do have something to say" Jace said nastily, leaning forward. "I don't have anything to say" Kara said. "You obviously do. You've been acting like a bitch for the past two days and honestly, I'm sick of it" Jace snapped. "Just shutup Jace. I don't want to fight with you. I don't want to talk to you. Just shutup" Kara said, staring out of the window. "Look at me when I'm talking to you!!!" Jace roared, lunging over and grabbing her face and twisting it towards him. Kara shoved him away, and his back hit the door of the carriage. "Your an ungrateful little bitch!" he yelled, fuming. "Erik and I have given you EVERYTHING HERE. And all you do is complain about everything! All you do is nag about things YOU DONT DESERVE TO KNOW. YOUR NOTHING HERE. NOTHING. YOU DONT MATTER AT ALL!!" he yelled, now standing in the carriage, his head hitting the ceiling. Kara stared at him. She opened her mouth to say something, and then shut it. She looked at Erik, who looked suprised, and then back at Jace. The two locked eyes, and Jace was looking at Kara in a way he had never before. With his eyes he was saying "I don't need you anymore. Your a burden. Leave. Your not wanted". Kara felt tears rush to her eyes. She looked down, trying to brush them away. One escaped and began to roll down her cheek. "God, I will not give him the satisfaction of wathcing me cry". Reaching over to the door, the swung it open and stepped out of the moving carriage.
The carriage was moving quicker then Kara thought, and so she lost her balance and tumbled to the ground. Before she fell, she managed to slam the door shut. When she hit the ground, she rolled a few tiems away from the carriage before she came to a stop. There was dust all over her now, and she bit her lip as she sat up and dusted herself off. A little ways up the road the carriage came to a stop and Erik bolted out. No sign of Jace. "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST PULL BACK THERE?" he screamed at her as he ran towards her. "Don't come NEAR me" she managed to yell back as she backed away. Erik's face was contorted with hurt. "I don't need you. I don't need you OR him! Just leave me alone! I want NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU ANYMORE" she screamed, her voice breaking as she began to sob. "I never want to see you two again!! You ruined my life!! Do you hear me? RUINED MY LIFE!!" she was sobbing now. "Just go, Erik. You don't need me either. Just go running back to him". "Kara......" Erik started, his eyes were wide and shocked. "Just GO!!" she screamed again, begining to walk towards the woods. As soon as she reached the mouth of the woods she began to run. She heard Erik say something else, but didn't comprehend it. She heard the carriage begin to move again, and ran even faster.
