Chapter 24: Crocodile Rock

"why is finding a job so hard" I groaned walking along the beach saddened by my failure. the whole day I tired finding a job around the city, but I couldn't find any place that was hiring because of my age and the places that would hire me had too many lustful women for me to want to work there

"I heard the unemployment rate was up but this is ridiculous" I sighed looking out into the ocean for a while before putting my bag down about to go for a swim

"hey you, what do you think you're doing?" I heard someone shout just before I could get near the water and froze before turning around only to see that there was a man coming up to me

"um is there a problem?" I asked relived I didn't get in the water yet

"yes, there a problem, didn't you read the sign" he asked me while I gave him a confused look and he sighed

"there's been a shark in this area, it attacked a few surfers a couple of days ago" he announced.

"I-is that so?" I asked looking out into the water. please tell me that it wasn't hunter

"yes, one of the surfers almost lost his foot to it. we've closed the beach since we've been seeing more than one around. a crew is going to show up in the morning to take care of it though"

"what do you mean take care of it?"

"they're not going to hurt them they're just going to move them to a different location and tag them so we know where they are maybe even put in a shark net if I have anything to say about it"

"shark net? Tagging? you don't have to do all that just relocate them carefully and they'll get the picture" I exclaimed. sharks that have does tags on their fins are always made fun off in the sea I'd try and help take them off but there no way to help without hurting the shark and once they smell blood they can't help but frenzy

"two men were hurt. and you know what, you shouldn't be swimming out here at night I could-" he started but I only started singing holding a single note

"what...wha...." he trailed off while I sang and I didn't stop till I saw that he was under my spell

"you're going to call the crew that is coming out here and tell them that the sharks have left and you're to never think about putting in a shark net here" I ordered and he slowly nodded his head smiling

"now go back home and make the call....and try to be nicer to people. have a goodnight" I told him and he nodded smiling while walking away backwards staring at me

"watch where you walk at least" I ordered again and he chuckled before doing so while I sighed before jogging into the water soon changing into my merman form. once I did I swam out into the ocean

"hunter.... rex" I shouted looking for them

"where are you guys" I shouted wondering why they weren't in their usual place swimming then I suddenly heard growling coming from a distance and went to check it out only to see hunter and rex swimming circles growling at what seemed to be a.... crocodile?

"hunter, rex what's going on?" I asked swimming up to them and they stopped circling the croc

"this fool came here days ago and attacked a man" rex announced

"he did, so it wasn't hunter?" I asked surprised

"no. if I bit they'll have a fright and then the men will take my life, remember?" he asked me and I smiled happy he remembered

"that's right hunter. you're getting wiser each day aren't you" I complimented making him smile proud

"and now there's you" I said looking at the croc who was on the sand hissing at me
