Thirty Four

Seven o'clock in the morning, I'm in hospital again to see Haru when I see Katherine. Both of us are a bit shocked. I just smile and turn away when she calls me.

"Summer!" she shouts. "Summer, right?"

I am surprised. "Yeah. Is that something wrong?"

"I want to talk with you about Jake."

"I'm not close with him again, if you ask."

"No," she says. "It's not about that. I just want to say sorry about everything. My dad. And your dad too."

"He's never been my dad," I say. "But fine, since I was born because of him too."

"Do you want to see my mom?" she asks.

"What do you mean?" I ask back.

"Come in," she says. She's standing in front of a room. When she opens the door, inside there's woman lying in the bed looking very sick and helpless.

"Who's .."

"My mom," she cuts me off. "My mom has TBC, just like me. But unfortunately, she couldn't recover like me. Every day because Sail is a doctor, my doctor and mom, he saw her and wanted to protect her. Sail once told me he also regretted that he left his daughter."

I don't know what to say. Alright, mom did kill herself. But, she and I weren't dying. "I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry that Sail told you to stay away from Jake. That's not our right. I love Jake, but I couldn't force him to love me. Our time has gone."

"We were in love. But I still am. Who could resist guy like him? But when I found out I was sick, I forced him to stay away. I dated Ryan, his best friend. And that's when Jake decided to date Rachel. Ryan and Rachel have always been a couple. Now they can't even meet again because of me and Jake. Not only that, I also got close with Ren, your brother. I'm quiet for a moment, then I nod. Suddenly Katherine's mom awakes and gasps when she sees mme "H-h-hara?" she stutters.

"No, I'm not her. I'm her daughter," I say.

"Her daughter? With Sail?" she asks.

"Yeah," I reply.

"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry that I took everything from you. I'm sorry."

"It's okay," I say, softly patting her hand. "I hope you will recover soon. But I need to go."

"Will you come to the premiere?" Katherine asks when she escorts me outside.

I shrug. "I have a thing. But I'll try to come. Thanks for telling me that story."

"Well, I think you deserve to know."

"Everyone deserves many things. Not just me."

"I can see why Jake is so fond with you," she says.

"Because I'm like Dean?"

Katherine shakes her head. "God, no. What I'm saying is you're just like him. Always try to make people feel special."

"Well, everyone deserves to feel that they are special," I say. "See you, Katherine. Thanks."

"Sure," she says.
