“Since you’re nowhere to be found,
I leave my heart with you.”
-Summer Lucia's music piece page 8

Having a first day in job is the first time for me. Well, let's be real, I’ve never worked before, unless you count a week volunteering in one or two orphanages. To be honest, I know my life seems to be so easy. I can do as much as I please.
But it’s not all easy. When depression kicks in, I don’t do nothing and I have wasted my time a lot. Not just that, but I also only know a few people as I didn’t really go to school. I graduated 2 years ago as homeschooling student.
I used to go to some boarding school when I was in middle school and high school. But I was out when I was still sophomore because the depression got worst and the psychology told me to stay home for daily check up.
So in the end, I studied at home with tutors.
The result of that was I don’t know how to talk with people. In the boarding school, we didn’t learn that because all of the students were busy to mend themselves.
Luckily, Ren and gramps went to the office earlier. I don’t know what to do if I come with them. I mean, it’s not good to show that you are the grandchild from the boss in your first day even though they already know about it.
But I will be embarrassed. I don’t know what to say because I will cover my face.
I decided that that I should wear all black. It’s not my style, but it’s for the job.
I stare at Joan Mitchell from a far. She is the head chief photographer in gramps's company. She is tall and has short red hair. I think she’s still a bit young, like maybe in her mid thirties.
Joan spots me instantly and comes toward. “You are Yuka Johnson right?” she asks me, looking at the board she hold in her arm.
“Um.. Summer is just fine,” I say. I don’t like to be called Yuka by someone whom I don’t really know or when I am in public.
Joan doesn’t seem to care, she gives me a an id card so I can enter a set. “Listen, I give you a very easy task. The set is 4B. You can look at the job description in the map,” she explains as she gives me the red map.
I open the map and I see the name ‘Thomas Round’. He’s well known for his candid shoot for every his fashion photo shoots.
“He's a great photographer,” Joan says. “Don’t mess up. As an intern, you’ll only help around.”
“Alright, thanks,” I say.
I instantly sigh in relief when Joan leaves. She’s such a tough cookie. I think she’s trying to observe whether I am a good photographer or just a boss’s granddaughter.
I have to show everyone that I actually have the capability to be a photographer.
I am so fired up as I want to show everyone that I am good. So I walk into the set with energy.
Thomas Round is an old man with glasses and almost white hair. He’s short, but looks chic.
“Hello,” he says as he straightens his glasses. “You must be Summer.”
“Yeah, that's me. Can I assist you with something? Coffee perhaps?”
“What? You are a photographer. The only thing you’ll assist me with is to help me find a good light. There are crews, but I’m sure no one really know the lights unless they are the real photographers.”
I instantly like the guy. He is sure a great photographer to work with.
“Shall we begin the shoot?” he asks me.
“Sure, lead the way.”
The photo shoot is about perfume ad. The point is to show the perfume bottle with sophisticate. I suggest a better lightning towards perfume bottle. After all, it's an ad about perfume.
The theme of the perfume is Iris. I glance at the lightning crew who tries to move the light, but I don’t think I’ll like the result if I keep standing here. So I go down and help the set directly.
“Here, let me move it for you,” I offer.
The lightning crew nods and seems pleased. He looks at me a moment and I think he knows that I am the boss's granddaughter, but I don’t really care. I work here for gramps.
I move the light as I think it’s the best for the shoot. I also set a soft red color and make it a little blur and I sway it around slowly to match the shoot. I can hear from here that Mr. Round keeps capturing the moments.
It can be meant one thing, I do a great job in lightning or else he’s not going to capture anything.
The shoot keeps going until I think ten or fifteen minutes. Once Mr. Round shouts, “It’s wrapped!”
I sigh in relief. The lightning is heavy. I'm glad it’s over.
I bow down to Mr. Round because I casually came down earlier without his permission, but he waves me off.
“I’m glad you had the initiative by yourself,” he says. “It’s meant that you’re professional.”
“Thank you, sir. It’s nice to work with you.”
“Well, the pleasure is on me. You’re kinda great. I enjoy working with you, so I hope you’ll get an assignment with me again,” he tells me. “Good job.”
I smile as I finally make it until the end. There are still many works to do, but I’m happy I pass this one.
The second job Joan tells me to do is sent in a message. ‘Bring coffee for crew members in set 10A’.
Everyone in here pretty much, if they are interns, they have to help around with drinks.
I quickly go out from the set 4B to find a tea and coffee cart. I find one near staff’s canteen. But I’m pretty sure you won’t see actors or actresses there.
I take the cart and push it around to find set 10A. Set 10A is one of the biggest sets here. It's hard to find. Actually it’s a set for famous people to act.
Eventually I find the set. The set is located near a small garden.
I show the security my id card, but from their faces, I know that they know me. I'm happy that people don’t really act as if I am the boss’s granddaughter. That’s what I need.
The set is in chaos as every people running around transferring clothes and shoes.
I walk in and pass the chaotic set to find people who want tea or coffee. But pretty much they don’t care. They are really busy.
Finally one of the crews see me and shouts, “Drink is here!”
The AD also sees me and claps his hands. “Take fifteen,” he commands to the entire set.
I finally realize that this is Jake Adams’s movie set as I see him walking to his trailer.
“Here, coffee, tea,” I say to every people who asks for it.
Once I’m done, I hear a PA talking to another one about me.
“So it’s true, that the boss’s granddaughter is really working here,” she says. “I don’t know what to say. Don’t you think it’s weird?”
I don’t stay to hear the reply. I just push the cart to exit the set.
“Cart girl!”
I look back and see Raymond Cox, a figurine in Jake Adams's movie, Run. He's walking towards me. “Can I have the tea, please?”
“Yeah, sure,” I say as I grab the cup to fill with tea. “Here you are.”
“Thanks, you must be new, huh?”
“Umm.. yes. Is that something wrong?” I ask him.
“Do you know that every cart person has to give Jake a cup of coffee, the black one? He will be very angry if you don’t give him. He's in his trailer, waiting for a coffee.”
“Oh my gosh! Really?”
“Why would I lie?” he asks with a certain expression I can’t describe.
“Okay, thanks for telling me.”
Raymond leaves and I quickly prepares the coffee for Jake Adams. I am so embarrassed. I should have asked first so I wouldn’t make mistake.
I take the cup and ask the crew where is his trailer. His trailer is located in the back of the set.
I knock the door, but there isn’t an answer. “Um.. hello? This is your coffee.”
There is a sound behind the door and I instantly know that I will face Jake Adams in a minute.
Maybe I’m not his fan. But I don’t know whether I’m immune to his charm.
I have to remember something so I don’t have to be uncomfortable.
Oliver. Yeah, him. He should be the guy I have to remember. But, lately I’ve been stepping him aside. I feel so bad. I shouldn’t do this. But this is the only way so I won’t go mad. I can think about him some other time when I do my music.
I don’t want to recall him now because I will think about any weird things, like jumping out from here which will be crazy. But maybe it seems like a good idea so I don’t have to feel anything anymore.
Just that, Jake Adams opens his door and the cup almost falls down from my hand.
One by one, the thoughts about Oliver are disappearing because I don’t know what to do now. “Um.. coffee?” I ask him lamely.
Jake Adams stares at me. His piercing blue eyes scans me up and down. “What do you want?” he asks.
“Raymond told me that you need coffee,” I reply shakily.
“I have my own. Why should I ask for one?” he asks.
“I'm sorry?” I ask. “But.. but..” I trail off but luckily I see Raymond passing by. “Excuse me, Mr. Cox!”
Raymond stares at me in disbelief. “Why did you call me?” he asks me. “What do cart girl do around here?” he asks Jake Adams.
“She said you told her that I need a coffee,” Jake Adams replies.
“When?” Raymond asks innocently.
“You said that when you asked for a coffee!” I protest.
“Um.. I don’t know about that,” he says. “You must be stalker. I don’t want to deal with one. Bye!” Then he just leaves.
I turn at Jake Adams. “You have to believe me, I’m not a stalker.”
Jake Adams runs his fingers through his hair. “I know. You're tricked by him.”
I sigh in relief. “Thank, God.”
He eyes the cup. “So that's for me?” he asks.
“Yeah, it should be,” I reply.
Jake Adams then takes the cup out from my hand and drink it. “Thanks.”
With that he goes back to his trailer and says nothing.
