The next morning, Abel disturbed my sleep again. Maybe it was his habit to. "Hey, wake up," Abel repeatedly tapped my face gently. "Sleepyhead, wake up!" He was whispering.

I grunted irritably, then opened my big eyes. Due to shock, I accidentally fell from the bed as I screamed. "Oops," he murmured.

Lying on the floor, I counted my fingers. Approximately, he was the seventh half-naked man that was hot. "You're the one working out!" I laughed, covering my eyes. That was enough! I would not see any guy like this anymore! No!

Luckily, there was no table or hard material beside the bed. And fortunately, there was no bedside table. If there was any, I'd hit my head.

"Why'd you say so?" He raised his eyebrow. "C'mon, open your eyes. It's not like you've never seen a guy half-naked before."

The burned village somehow recovered. But it still looked obviously devastated. The tents that were consumed by fire were gone, and it surprised me that they were replaced with a few new tents. I remembered that there were survivors.

"Where are the bodies?" I asked. I certainly did not see any corpse lying on the ground. It made me have goosebumps.

"They deserved to be buried. Every body. But do you know that vampires never rot? I mean their corpses?"

That was a fact. "Why?" Just to be sure if there was other reason. If there was.

"Vampires belong with the soil. And we're corpses."

"That's true." That was what humans believed.

I went to check it out, there were several villagers sitting at the centermost spot, with a fire at their middle.

We had walked slowly towards the Elder's tent. The two of us could sense that the survivors were watching us as we walked. I was so bewildered about them, they were. . . So strange and mysterious.

The Elder staring was at the sky outside. It seemed like he smelled us that he lowered his head to take a look at us.

He closed his eyes for a moment as if he was absorbing a thought. "They fortunately hid when the attack happened."

I quickly knew he was talking about the villagers who was lucky to be alive. "Can you tell us what exactly happened during that time?" I hoped he would tell the complete detail.

"You weren't too late, my children. Those enemies knew you'd come. They just attacked earlier. Now, don't blame yourself for naught, Selene Lockhart."

"How did they kill you, Elder?" He asked, frowning as a sign of concentration.

"Vampires surrounded the place. There were a lot of them. Countless of cruel vampires killed my innocent villagers. Women, children, and even babes they put an end to their lives to. I've prepared my best people to fight them, but they quickly got killed, but somehow, it helped me warn some of my people to hide.

"I watched as they kill and destroy my village. I even lost hope that they would catch my survivors. But I was so thankful they were alive, and here they are, they finally came back."

"Who attacked you?"

"None other than Ashmei," he sighed and he was again weeping. "But it is only us who know. The other vampires there won't ever know. Ashmei is good at hiding whatever she wants to hide."

"Show me where she lives and I swear to give justice to your home and to your villagers," I clenched my teeth as I spoke. I was really angry inside. I didn't know these kind of ruthless and merciless vampires actually exist.

"No."

"No? You would not let me fight them?! You would just sit there and stare at the sky and try to forget every nightmare that happened?!" Not just my teeth that I clenched, also my fists. I was too much confused that I was angry.

"You do not understand, my child."

"Yes! I don't understand you."

"This is suicide, Selene! Ashmei is powerful."

I looked at Abel and showed him a sullen stare. "Are you underestimating my capability?!"

He shook his head wildly. "No! With you going there, you're just reducing your life! Ashmei has too much allies, too much friends. They'll outnumber us, even if you are going to need an army. This is suicide."

"I don't care! If she's the most ruthless vampire existing, then it's doubtless that she was connected to the one who attempted to kill my mother."

"Hey, don't just bestir yourself going there. Think about your family, your friends, even yourself. Think about what the people who loves you would feel if you die. Don't be selfish. And there'll be a faint chance you'll make it out alive," Abel educated me as if he was a teacher.

"Don't contradict with me, Selene Lockhart. I know everything about you. There are things that are yet to come. This may not be the right time to face Ashmei, but you have to listen to Abel Mullen."

Alright, I quit. You win.

"The prophecy . . ." He was scarcely heard when he was rolling his eyes as if a possessed person again. He suddenly looked at me. "There will be time to fight her, my child. But you have one thing to do."

I knew that he was just thinking about our safety. As a Lockhart, as well. "What is it, Elder?" I calmly asked.

"You go and enjoy your lives there at the human's world first."

"Huh?" Both of us asked at the same time. We were really confused.

"Like I've said, once I say something, do not contradict or ask about it. I am the Elder, and I know everything about you."
