Chapter fourteen: Hurt by you

Two days after that the school opened.  They all went to class. The whole school was full of freshness. 

One month later, one of their teachers gave assignment. It was to be given in tomorrow.

Haley came home and thought of starting it in the evening.

All of a sudden, that afternoon, her mom started feeling a severe pain in her stomach. She couldn't move and literally it felt like would collapse any moment. Her dad quickly took her to the hospital. Haley went with her too.

The doctor told them it was appendicitis. And she needed operation. They said they would start the operation in an hour and their was nothing to worry about.

Haley was still scared. Just the word operation was enough to scare her. But she knew she had to stay strong for her mom.

They started the operation and Haley sat outside the OT with her dad and sister. Her sister fell asleep on her lap. She called Brooke and told her all about it and let her know that she wouldn't be able to go to school the next day. She was way to concerned about the operation to worry about the assignment.

Her mom's operation was successful. But they didn't discharge her that day.

She was discharged the next day. In the afternoon.

Haley came home and had to look after her sister and also prepare food for everyone. She was tired at night. She somehow packed her books and went to sleep.

She went to school and Sam came by.
Sam : Hey!
Haley: Hey! What's up?
Sam: Good. How's your mom now?
Haley : Better. It was so sudden. I'm glad the operation went good.
Sam : Yeah me too.

Brooke came along and gave Haley a big hug.

Brooke : Hales! Where is your assignment?
Haley : Shit. I forgot.
Brooke : What? Hales, you were supposed to give it yesterday but since you were absent you should have brought it today.
Haley : I absolutely forgot. It's just.. its been so chaotic. The last few days.. now what do I do? Should I tell sir about it ? Maybe he'll get it?
Brooke : Yeah.I think you should do that. Though he is not nice. You've seen how rude he is, right?

Haley seemed concerned.

Brooke : Sam, I have my cheerleading practice at break time. So you take Haley to the teacher, yeah?

Sam : Yeah, of course.

At break time, Haley and Sam went to the teacher's room. .

Haley: I am kind of scared sam. What if he gets angry?

Sam: You will reply back to his argument is not valid. Haley, you had a reason. Don't be scared.
Haley: Okay.

She took a deep breath. Sam stood outside and Haley went inside. Sam was standing right by the door.

Haley went to the teacher and as soon as she started telling him that she couldn't submit, he stormed off. He started screaming at her and didn't even give haley a chance to speak.

Haley stood there, helpless. Almost at the verge of tears.

Sir: What do you mean you couldn't do it ? Your mother was sick. Not you. And who knows if your mother was even sick or not. You kids just make fake excuses to get through problems.

He kept going on. Haley was too scared to say anything else. She wasn't expecting such rough behaviour.

Sam didn't stand back.

Sam: Sir! Watch your mouth. What are you saying. Her mom had an operation. You didn't even give her a chance to speak.

Haley could sense the teacher getting more furious.

Haley: Sam,please leave. This is between us. Just go.

Sam: I am not leaving you here with him.

Sir: O really ?! Well good for you. Your paper will be dismissed. Good luck with the marks. And you girl, give it by tomorrow. I will not forget this.

Sam: Who told you to ?

Haley: Sam ! Shut up ! But sir, don't dismiss his one. Please.

Sir: Get out !! Now !

Sam stormed out of the room.
But Haley was more pissed.

She didn't know who she was pissed on more.
The teacher or sam.

Haley: Don't you dare walk away. HEY ! LISTEN TO ME! 

Sam: Leave me alone

They walked out of the building and came outside.

Haley made him turn back.

Haley: Why the fuck did you have to do that ? Couldn't you just stand outside of the room. You messed it up more.

Sam: What's your problem?? My paper got dismissed not yours. You got what you wanted. Now just leave.

Haley: I GOT WHAT I WANTED  ?!?! I didn't want your paper to get dismissed ! You know that sir is going to hate us forever from now right? And you don't have to act so kind sam. I could have handled it myself

Sam: Of course you could. Thats why you stood there crying your eyes off. You really think you could have handled it! HUH!UNBELIEVABLE.

Haley: GOSH ! You think I am capable of doing nothing, don't you ? Well, thanks for letting me know that the only person who made me not feeling insecure also thinks I am an idiot. I am leaving. I don't wanna talk to you anymore.

Haley left that day. Sam didn't stop her. He was too pissed to be nice at that time. His head wasn't straight.

He came back home. Pissed off at himself and on her.

When he calmed down, he realised how rude those words were. And how much he had hurt Haley, even though he didn't mean to.

Haley sobbed for hours alone in her room. Her door was locked.

She couldn't sleep. "How could he say those words", she thought to herself.

Sam called her a few times but she wouldn't answer.

None of them could sleep that night. Sam knew he had to apologise. Anyhow.
