He hated it. He hated seeing how Katherine Pierce was worming her way into Damon's mind. When Damon got back from the war, Xander had never been happier. He came back without a scratch and he was prepared for Damon's promise. To run away together.
But then in came miss Pierce and suddenly the plan to runaway had been halted. Damon was spending more and more time with her and Xander tried to convince himself that it was nothing. That there was nothing between them because he knew that Damon wouldn't do that. He wouldn't hurt him. He wouldn't fall for Katherine Pierce.
Everything changed when Xander waited in the clearing for his lover but the raven haired man never showed and Xander sat there for hours. Hoping that he would show. The longer he waited the sadder he got but then that sadness changed to anger.
That's how Xander found himself walking back home with tears in his eyes. He tried not to overreact. Damon could have simply forgotten. Though the man had never, not once, forgotten before.
In the distance he saw two people leaned up against a tree in an embrace and it made Xander's sorrows stronger. For he and Damon hadn't embraced in what felt like years.
But as he got closer, the two blurry figures became clearer and Xander could not believe what he was witnessing. He had to be having another nightmare but as he pinched himself he felt the familiar pain. It was real. Damon Salvatore was kissing Katherine. Kissing her the way he should have been kissing Xander.
And as Damon's head turned to look at him, Xander saw something flicker in the man's eyes before it was replaced by a blank stare. He didn't make a move to go after Xander as the man ran away, leaving Damon and Katherine alone with a hole in his heart, not knowing the Damon had been compelled and that flicker of emotion in his eyes was him trying to break free.

Xander sat on the couch, his eyes closed and he tried hard not to fall asleep as he was very tired. Elena sat next ho him, Stefan standing off to the side and Damon boarding up a window that had been smashed. Xander was told that after he had passed out two of the tomb vampires had attacked the Salvatore brothers. One of the tomb vampires had been killed and the other had gotten away.
He hardly remembered anything that had happened the night before. The details after he left the Mystic Grill were a little hazy but from what Damon told him, he was a happy drunk and Damon found it adorable which was responded with a pout from Xander. Being called adorable by your boyfriend wasn't the best. At least not in Xander's opinion.
Damon continued to hammer the nails into the wood with a grim look on his face, showing his anger from the events of the previous night. He had just gotten Xander to bed when it happened and he was so thankful for that. If they had came when Xander was passed out Damon didn't even want to think about what could've happened. He knew he would die before he let anyone hurt him though. Just as Xander would do the same for him. "I say we go to Pearl's, bust down the door, and annihilate the idiot that attacked us last night."
