Because Logan, Mikayla here will replace you.

Those words ring within my mind continuously and suddenly, I find my legs giving way so I sit down quickly. What kind of conspiracy has Alpha Kai planned here? He has to be joking.

Logan drags his eyes towards me now. They are heavy with malice, filled with unexpressed anger and I know Alpha Kai is enjoying this. He's enjoying toying with Logan.

"You must be joking!" Logan scoffs out, each word accompanied with a terrifying sneer which although frightens me, doesn't seem to faze Alpha Kai in the slightest because he continues.

"I'm not." He deadpans, face back to indifferent as he moves his gaze back to my brother "I want your sister to replace you."

"That's just impossible!" Logan argues, eyes shooting back to Alpha Kai now as he gives him a deathly glare. Alpha Kai just looks at him with a blank face, completely un-bothered by the fact that my brother wants nothing more right now than to kill him.

"And why is it impossible?" Alpha Kai asks, eyebrow raised incredulously.

"To begin with, she's a woman!" He yells out as if my gender is my most obvious disqualification and I can't help the instant offence I take to that.

"So?"Alpha Kai shrugs, raising his shoulders to brush Logan's point off "I'm a man, Logan. And I'm not a blind one. I can see that your sister is a woman, a very beautiful one at that. But how does that matter?"

I have to bite my tongue to keep myself from thanking Alpha Kai for this. Albeit I don't want to be Alpha but that's just simply because I think that, that position needs more ambitious or ruthless people which well, I am neither of those and not because I am a woman. Why should the fact that I'm a woman even factor in this conversation?

"We don't have any female Alphas!" Logan defends through gritted teeth.

"Currently." Alpha Kai retorts "If your knowledge is limited then I would like to be the one to educate you on the fact that the previous Alphas of both the Blackwood and Rouge Moon packs were both women."

Logan's face falls in an instant and Alpha Kai doesn't even bother to shield his triumphant smirk.

"My point is, her gender isn't a disqualification."

I smile internally as well. Again, I repeat, I don't want to be Alpha but even at that, being Alpha should be based on your capabilities or birthright and not on gender. How narrow-minded of my brother.

"You're also forgetting that Mikayla's mother is a servant and not the Luna. She's illegitimate!" Logan boarders on and I spring onto my feet simply outraged.

"Logan!" I yell out, my fists clenching as I narrow my eyes at him. He ignores me.

"Last time I checked, your father was the Alpha and your father is also her father. Your father has the Alpha blood, not your mother so Mikayla has Alpha-blood running through her veins, just like you." Alpha Kai debunks Logan's argument intelligently and then he knits his fingers together, sets it atop his lap and leans back into his seat.

From the way Logan vibrates, I know that he is losing control of this situation but the fact that he thinks his only way to salvage the situation is by throwing me under the bus any way he can manage is just not right!

"Mikayla has also been through a very traumatic experience." Logan continues and at the mention of his last point, I sit back down, releasing my clenched fists. "I don't think she is in the right state of mind to lead a pack, Kai!"

Did he just call me crazy?

"I heard about that." Alpha Kai says and I feel his gaze shift to me "I'm sorry about that horrific experience Mikayla. Alpha Jayce's wolf has never been the type to take kindly to anyone, including his mate it seems."
