Black eyes trap me against my bed. I am unable to move as I look at him, my heart beating frantically in terror. The thumps within my chest seem to be escalating by the second and it feels like I can hear them in my ears.

I don't know what's terrifying me more; the horrible night terror I just woke up from or this man who stands at the foot of my bed with hands tucked into his pocket, soulless eyes trained on me with deadly precision.

I just look at him, my words stuck in my throat as the rest of my body remains glued to my bed, simply unable to move. Sweat trickles down my face.

"I don't know about you but some people actually like to sleep at night." Matthew says in an exhale and life is breathed back into me.

I successfully move, sitting up straighter. I take in a deep breath and close my eyes, trying to calm myself. When I feel myself calm slightly, I open them.

"Please explain to me what you are doing in my bedroom in the middle of the night." My words are rushed but demanding, my tone husky and I reach for the bottled water in my attempt to hydrate.

"Ever since I came here, I've not been able to sleep at night. Why you ask? Because every damn night, I hear this insane screaming like someone is being attacked." He explains. His voice comes out irritated more than anything "I don't know if you know this but my bedroom is directly opposite yours and today, when the screams started, I decided to investigate. That is exactly how I ended up here."

No, I didn't know that.

I place the bottled water back on the table with my shaky fingers and my breathing finally evens. When it does, I take in Matthew's appearance in the dim lighting. Not that the lighting matters with Alpha vision. His chest is bare and hands are tucked into his long pants.

I realise at this moment that I'm only in my bra because my covers are pulled away from my chest and tucked around my hips due to the heat. We never get chilly nights in this pack.

"Well, you can leave now." I tell him, my voice is whispered as I look away from him.

"Night terrors." He deadpans and then suddenly takes a step forward. He takes a seat at the edge of my bed at the same time I look back at him. "What are the demons that won't let you sleep Kay?"

My teeth grinds together. It isn't a what. It's a who. My demon has a name. My demon is my gift from the moon. A gift that I'm sure was given to me with the full intent of destroying me in every single way possible.

"I don't want to talk about it." I reply, looking away from him once more as I move my legs within my sheets slightly. I'm unsettled.

"My sister used to have night terrors." He tells me in a somber tone which prompts me to look back at him. When I do, his black eyes are on me but they are blank and holding no visible emotion. He pulls his hands out of his pockets and clasps them together.

"I didn't even know what night terrors were until I started to get them." I say lowly, my index finger making small compulsive circles against my bed sheet as I purse my lips.

"My baby sister Amelia watched her best friend commit suicide right in front of her when she was nine. I don't even know if it was suicide or not but Amelia watched her die and was too shocked by what was happening to even move. By the time she did move, her friend was dead." Matthew lets out a haggard breath now, looking away from me "We spent subsequent years after that waking up to her piercing screams or sometimes, her sleepwalking. The number of times she had a knife in her hand is remarkable. She accidentally stabbed me once even."
