"I can take care of myself!" I mumble, rudely dragging the ice pack out of Mer's hand.

She looks at me stunned, her eyes widening when she raises her hand in the air and looks from me to a groaning Matthew on the couch opposite me. His lip is busted and there is a small gash along the side of his jaw.

"I'll get another ice pack for you, Matt." Mer says and then walks out of the room while I scoff at her slightly.

"You don't like Mer very much, do you?" Matthew notes and I ignore him, lifting my arm to take my top off. He eyes me with speculation and I raise my eyebrows at him in a question. "Why are you taking your top off?"

"Because I can't put the ice pack on the bruises you gave me with my top on. What? Never seen a semi-naked woman before?" I roll my eyes, placing my top on the couch next to me when I reach over to take the ice pack.

"I guess modesty doesn't exist in your dictionary."

"Not at all but who are you to judge? You love being shirtless. Like now." I point towards him, my eyes taking in the bruises on his chest from our fight. I also see the scratch marks from my nails below his right nipple and I chuckle.

I've learnt over the years that my nails are killer. The marks will stay on his skin for quite a while. Serves him right.

I begin pressing the ice pack to my stomach and ribcage, biting back my groans as I do so. The only reason I'm not in as much or even more pain than Matthew right now is because another perk of being an Alpha happens to be rapid healing. My internal injuries are almost all healed now but the bruises linger on.

As I stare down at the other black blemishes lining my torso, I'm transported back to how I used to use ice packs whenever Jayce hit me. I'm basically a self-learnt nurse. When I look at Matthew, he's looking at me. At first, I think he's looking at my breasts in my bra but I soon realise that his eyes are on my stomach.

"You have alot of scars." He observes and I press my lips together, looking away.

Luckily, Mer rushes in and for once, I'm actually thankful for her presence. She comes in with an ice pack and first aid box then sets it next to Matthew but her eyes look worried.

"I'm sorry Matt, I'd love to help you but I really have to go now. Something came up." She looks at me now "I hope you don't mind that I'm leaving early?"

"No. It's fine." I say and then she gives both Matthew and me apologetic looks before walking off.

Matthew sighs, taking his hands to rest on either side of the couch and he winces, his face grimacing deeply. I only smile at his pain.

I press the ice pack harder against my ribs until it numbs completely before I bring it up to my slightly swollen cheek. When I look at him, he is wallowing in his pain and making no move to use the ice pack right next to him.

"Aren't you going to nurse yourself back to better health?" I ask and Matthew drags his eyes back to me. Despite his grimace, his eyes are as bored as ever.

"It'll heal..... in time."

"I'm sure if Mer was here to help you, you wouldn't be complaining." I counter, rolling my eyes when I place the ice pack next to myself.

"If you're so bothered, you have hands, Kay. What's stopping you from helping me?" He deadpans, eyes still trained on mine.

"Your arrogance." I murmur.

"If you really wanted to, you could help me." He argues, starting a spark between us.

"Only if you want my help."
