I'm squeezing my mother so tightly that I fear I will crush her. Despite my force, she doesn't complain or even groan. She's savouring the feel, inhaling my scent deeply so it can stay with her.

I'll miss her so much and I'm putting all this emotion into this hug. Her lips graze my ear when I nuzzle my head deeper into her neck, taking in her scent as well.

"I'll miss you mom." I tell her, each word of mine aching my heart strings, tugging at them intensely and I exhale into her.

"I'll miss you more Kayla." She says into my ear, her voice barely above a whisper "Don't let anyone intimidate you okay? You're still their Alpha. They still have to bend their knees and bow to you. Remember, you hold the power and not them."

I nod against her but her sharp flow of words don't cease. Her influx of advice doesn't stop and I take it all in, doting on her every word just like when I was a little girl.

I'll miss her deeply.

"Talk to your father more. I know your relationship is strained but he wants to fully mend things so give him a chance. Remember, just because he's always here doesn't mean he always will be. "

My eyes close as my lips tighten. I have forgiven him. I've never been one to hold grudges to begin with. Resentment hurts me, not them. I know this. I've always worn my emotions on my sleeves anyway, never had the energy to shield whatever I felt from anyone. Even till now.

"I'll try to get to know father better." I promise her. He may not have been the best father but if he's willing to make up for his twenty years of hatred then I won't pose as a barrier to his redemption.

"You should." She presses on, tightening her hold on me even more "Remember, he was the Alpha for almost thirty years. He's knowledgeable about things. Also, talk to Jane. I know you don't visit her. You should change this. She was kind to you."

I sigh out. "She is pretty much comatose mom. She's still in shock. She doesn't speak or move. I doubt she would want to see me of all people. What would I even say to her?"

"You don't have to say anything Kayla. Sometimes, silence is its own conversation. I understand you resenting your father but not his mate. Logan's mother tried her best to treat you like her own. Every birthday, she bought you the best dresses, prettier than anything I ever gifted you. My point is, in her own way, Jane loved you so don't return the favour by never even visiting her. She may be in shock but that doesn't mean she isn't lonely and besides, she's suffering knowing that her son is responsible for so much calamity. Promise me you'll try."

"I'll try mom." I say into her. She's right. Jane is a very good woman who never deserved to be cheated by her mate the way she was. That's why I avoid her; out of shame knowing that even if my existence isn't my fault, it still causes her pain. I still hurt her. But nonetheless, I'll try.

"Call me everyday, okay?" I beckon.

"Definitely! And remember to eat, don't neglect your diet. Wash your hair every three to five days! Not once in a week or two weeks or how ever long you like to keep it!" I chuckle against her. Leave it to my mom to still bark out orders even when she's leaving "And oil your damn hair! It's so dry! You don't take care of your appearance."

"I never had a reason to pay more attention to it than I needed to mom." I mutter.

That's true. The only time I actually cared about how I looked like in the mirror was when I was foolishly in love with Matt and wanted him to notice me. Since he disappeared after the incident against the tree, beauty and all it's worries stopped being my thing. It lost its point in my eyes.
