Side note: I hope you guys remember Jade because she's relevant to this chapter. If you don't, she's Mikayla's penpal from another pack. They communicate through letters.
Now, Enjoy...
"Kayla?" Jade's eyes go wide, pulling me into her for a big hug. She squeezes me earnestly, my nose only focused on the lemon scent that her skin seems to be coated in. When she pulls away, she holds me by the shoulders, her jaded green eyes looking at me from top to bottom with inquisition.
"Jade," I mimic her enthusiastic tone, pulling away slowly as I clutch to my bag pack, looking around nervously.
"I can't believe it's you!" Jade exclaims in a shrill voice, almost unable to contain her excitement as she jumps slightly. She looks around, most likely wanting to make sure that people aren't staring.
"It is," I answer, my eyes still scanning everywhere. "Are we safe here?"
She looks around cautiously and that's when I finally find the boy behind her that clings to her leg a little too hard. She pulls him forward. His hands are covered in dust and his face in grease. He is no older than seven and with the same penetrating green eyes, I know instantly that he's Jade's second younger brother; Jensen.
When he looks up at Jade, I note the stains on his blue shirt and the holes in his dark pants. His shoes look worn out. Jade bends to his level to speak to him. She's in a yellow dress but doesn't look any better. The edges of her dress has tears and her slippers look like they have been stitched so many times that they should just come apart. She looks visibly cleaner than her brother though but her hands and feet are still covered in some dust. Her blonde hair is braided singly but pokes out in a very messy way.
"Kayla, this is Jensen," she finally introduces, nudging her brother forward. He extends his hand out to me. "Sorry, he's very shy. Always hiding behind my skirt."
I shake Jensen's hand, ruffling his darkish blonde hair slightly. He smiles then runs back to his sister. She makes eyes at him, looking slightly embarrassed. Her eyes only spell 'I taught you better than this."
"Come," she takes my hand. "You're right. This alley isn't very safe. People get robbed here. I'll take you to my home. They'll all be so happy to finally meet you!"
Jade looks at me with stars in her eyes when she pulls me to walk with her. I follow, not really having anywhere else to go.
After I read Logan's letter, I rushed to the compartment he wrote to me about. There, I found money - alot, alot of money - and a new identity. Marilene Clark. The identity was needed to get me across some borders as well as to hide my actual identity.
After Cayo's death, I was done with everything that had to do with Matthew. I decided to leave him but I didn't have the means until Logan stepped in. I don't trust his intentions but I needed a leeway even if that leeway was questionable.
The compartment also had other instructions. And I followed them. In the early hours of the morning, I left the house with a small bag pack I had from my teenage years. Mer packed a few clothes. I said goodbye to her, my father and Jane. Then I left, all the while making sure Matthew didn't suspect a thing. I climbed into the car with Logan's 'driver' and left my pack; The Silver Valley Pack for good. Once off that territory and on Alpha Fabian's middle pack territory, I told Logan's driver Rafe that I didn't want to go to Logan. I wanted to go to Alpha Maddox's pack; the Goldstone Pack.
