I hear the grumbles the minute I step out onto the yard. The annoyed and angry male grunts are reverberating all around me with vitality.

When their eyes find me, the snarls are imminent. The hateful glares are instant. I just shoot back with a bored look at the same time Matt comes to stand behind me.

I take in that  scene. My yard is cluttered with men and not a single one of them is smiling at me. Their stances are threatening. I smile, rolling my shoulders back. If they're trying to intimidate me then it really isn't working.

"Is there a problem?" I say, my smile now gone. My voice booms out forcefully, echoing through the air in a shocking way.

The whole yard goes silent.

"You're free to speak or what? Have you men suddenly lost your balls in the face of a woman?" I thunder. Matt only chuckles behind me.

The men glare at me, bristling under the insult.

"You made us wait for over thirty minutes!" A man in front of the crowd says. He stands to my left and the minute he says those words, the others grumble their agreement.

"I did, didn't I? " I retort, turning to face the man who just spoke. His face is set in a scowl, black eyes filled with venomous rage.

I stalk towards him with my arms crossed over my chest. I keep the smile on my lips knowing it is riling him up. When I stand before him, he is a couple inches taller than me. His body is much more bulkier than mine.

That doesn't stop me from shoving him.

He staggers backwards immediately, falling into the crowd of people and they hold on to him, preventing him from landing into the grass. There is a heavy silence and when the man's eyes look up to meet mine, they are his wolf's raging black.

"What are you going to do about it?" I challenge him, my eyes narrowing when I flash fang which has descended from my canines.

He stands up and despite his tense muscles, his raging black wolf eyes return to their dull black to back down.

Good.

"So I hear you boys don't like me!" I boom, the rage seeping back into my veins and I curl my fists.

The men are silent but their angry eyes speak volumes and I don't relent, letting my eyes shift gold, refusing to let my fangs ascend.

"I hear you all have a problem with the fact that I am a female and I happened to replace my brother!"

This time, I hear the grunts.

"Well, I have never been a person of words. They actually mean nothing without actions so I'm going to give you all the chance to fight for what you truly want. You don't want me as Alpha? That's fine but nothing comes easy. If you don't want me as Alpha, you will have to fight me for the position. So common boys do it. Challenge me."

Uneasiness surfaces in the crowd. Eyes are wary. Each man stares at the other, weighing their options.

I can almost hear their brains working. Their faces relax into blank slates, blank stares yet at the same time, muscles are taut, veins are protruding. They look at each other, trying to weigh what the other is thinking. The men connected with their wolves no doubt communicating with each other through the mind-link while the men who didn't connect with theirs, stare at their fellow men in limbo.

I know what they're all thinking so I set them straight before they can even consider making the stupid move they are considering.

"When I say challenge me, I hope you are all clever enough to realise that I mean so individually. You don't get to fight me as a group. Afterall, all of you can't be Alpha. Only one person can so don't get ahead of yourselves. If you want a group fight though, I won't mind wiping you all out but that would be bloody even for you all. Group fights aren't valued in this position though. Challenges must be an individual thing. It's sort of the law and you know that. So who's my challenger?"
