Chapter Twenty Eight

After Ava informed me about Alpha Brian's visit in the middle of the night of all times, I quickly bound my huge head of hair which was messy from my prior activity, told Matthew and then rushed out of my bedroom. He was right behind me but I barely spared him more than two glances despite the fact that my lips were still tingling from my previous indulgence.

It doesn't matter though. The Alpha I had sent a letter to over a month ago in my search for an ally is finally here and he's all I am concerned about now. My pleasure and whatever can come later. Business and my duties will always come first.

I am at the top of the stairs when my eyes catch his lean silhouette. His back is turned to me but as I start walking down the staircase, he turns. Warm brown eyes on a youthful face greet me. His smile is shy as he looks at me and his bright auburn hair is gelled back impeccably. That isn't why my eyes seem to be bulging out of their sockets and my steps start to slow though.

His attire is different from what I am used to. I've come across it prior though when Alpha Damien's father, Alpha Dane came to visit my father three years ago. I found the dressing of him and his pack members so strange and unfamiliar that I ravaged through books upon books in my effort to educate myself. Now, staring at Alpha Brian who is looking at me from below the stairs, I am glad I did.

They - The Blue Water pack - broke off from Alpha Damien's pack; the Sapphire Pack and I had heard that like them, they also dress in the traditional way. Stockings and breeches instead of trousers, cravats instead of ties, waistcoats over huge white linen shirts instead of a plain shirt. Just like a suit but at the same time, the difference between this attire and a modern suit is clear as day.

He is brushing his hand over his black coat when I finally make it down the stairs. His scent is one of a sensual brew of pine and citrus which is overwhelming and he is smiling at me shyly, eyes timid like as if he isn't supposed to even be looking at me and then he bows curtly. I smile back and push my hand forward for him to shake it.

"Alpha Brian! What a pleasant surprise!" I coo happily while he looks down at my hand "It's nice to meet you. I'm Alpha Kayla and you are very welcome to my pack and my home."

He captures my hand at this moment but he doesn't shake it. Instead, he stuns me by bringing it up to his lips and placing a soft kiss my hand. I stare at him shook at the same time Matthew comes to stand by my right side.

When he releases my hand, I take it back slowly, the spot that was just kissed buzzing slightly.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Alpha Kayla." He says, bringing his head up to look back at me "I go by Kian."

My eyebrows crease in confusion instantly and I turn to look at Matthew who is also looking at Kian with intrigue. I look back at Kian now and his smile is boyish, eyes unsure but twinkling with a delight I don't understand. Before I get the chance to ask him the question raking through my mind, the front door opens and then just as quickly, shuts.

A man dressed in similar apparel as Kian comes striding in confidently. His air as he walks is powerful and when his eyes find us, he smiles from ear to ear. A large smile that chills me in a certain way I can't place.

"Ah! You must be the famous Alpha Kayla!" He announces as he stands next to Kian "I can see that you've already met Kian, my firstborn. I'm Alpha Brian by the way."

When he holds his hand out to me, I place mine in it and he repeats the action previously performed by his son. He kisses my hand softly and then lets it go and glances at his son. I realise now that I should have figured that Kian wasn't the Alpha because with the two standing side by side right now, it's obvious which one of the pair radiates power. The power that comes from being accepted by the moon and gifted with an Alpha wolf. A power I no doubt radiate as well.
