Chapter 2: Denial

"So, you still haven't decided on which high school you're going to?" Midoriya asks.

"Nah, I'm thinking though," I said. "You're applying for U.A. right?"

"Yeah, even if I don't have a quirk, I'll still try to become a hero," he said.

I wanted to give Midoriya a useful quirk since I had a few in my disposal but it just didn't seem right. I had a gut feeling that something was going to happen that would change Midoriya's life.

"Let's go get a drink in that store over there," I said.

"I didn't bring any money with me," Midoriya says.

"It's fine, It's on me," I said as we enter.

We talked for a bit in the store's bench about random stuff from school work to quirks and the heroes we saw the other day.

"That was refreshing" Midoriya said.

"Yeah, it hit the spot," I said putting down my drink.

We start to chat as we go home until the my lid of the sewers started to rattle. We were under a bridge, and we stared at the rattling sewer lid.

"Surprise!" A mysterious green liquid said as it started to ooze out of the sewers.

The liquid looked a lot like sludge.

"Run!" I shout as we start to run.

The sludge catches up to us and wraps his liquid arms around our bodies and we couldn't move an inch.

"Let's see... what do we have here. Two quirkless kids? Well, it's better than nothing," he said.

He looks at us picking who he would choose.

"I think I'll choose you," he said to Midoriya as he starts to put sludge in his mouth as he started to choke.

"Don't worry. I'm just hijacking your body. Calm down. It'll only hurt for about 45 seconds... then it'll be all over," (quoted from the anime/manga).

I stressfully had to watch as the sludge started to take over Midoriya's body. I was tempted to use a quirk until I sensed something coming at us and it was very fast.

"Texas Smash!" We heard as the sludge burst into tiny puddles as we pass out from the blast as well.

"Oww... What in the world happened?" I said rubbing the back of my head.

I look to see Midoriya with... All Might?

"So, he was the one who saved us," I said in head.

"Ah! You're up, nice to meet you!" All Might said giving me a handshake, "I have to get going now, I have to bring this villain to the authorities."

Right as he was going to jump off Midoriya tells me to grab onto All Might. The second All Might leaps, we attached ourselves to his body. At first, he didn't notice but as he looks back, he knew what was slowing him down.

"What are you guys doing here!?" He said in a panic.

"I just followed what he said to do!" I said shouting.

All might looked around for a place to land and we ended up on a tall building.

"Was there something you would like to ask me?" He said to Midoriya.

"Yes..." Midoriya said.

"What is it?" All Might said.

"C-Could it be possible to become a hero without a quirk?" He asked.

Before he could answer, All Might's body suddenly starts to steam and shrink. We were both surprised as he was still All Might but looked different. His massive muscular body had shrunken. To top it all off, he also coughed blood.

"I was going to keep this a secret but..." he explains about how he turned out to be like this.

"Oh, and Midoriya, I think it was, my answer is sadly... no," he said leaving Midoriya speechless, "It is mostly impossible to become a hero without a quirk."

He puts a hand on Midoriya's shoulder as he slowly walks away.

"If saving people is what you want to do, joining the police force is a possibility," All Might said as he closes the door and leaves.

We stayed on the rooftop of the building until dusk. I put a hand on his shoulder and say

"Come on, let's go, it's getting late," I said.

Hearing denial from his idol was probably tearing him from the inside. He slowly gets up and we start to walk back home quietly.
