Chapter 4: Talking

Ever since Midoriya's fateful encounter with All Might, he has been working out to the max day in and out. Even in school he was secretly lifting dumbbells and sometimes even sleeping in class which was uncommon for him. It made me smile at how serious he was and the effort he was putting into carrying out his dream and not disappoint the person he was given a chance to.

Bakugo had gone quiet ever since he was attacked, and it was strange. He would of course typically scoff at Midoriya or I every now and then when we crossed paths, but other than that he left us be. After school Midoriya would always go on ahead to go train and I would secretly follow him and watch from a distance.

Watching Midoriya made me think, do I have something I can work that hard for? Maybe I could become a hero like him and maybe... I don't know.

To be honest, I was jealous of Midoriya in a way because, even when he had nothing, he always had the goal to become a hero. For me, all I had going for me was finding out new quirks and that was it. I didn't have much of a hobby other than that and nothing that could lead to a path in a career.

"Well at least Midoriya will live an interesting life," I said as I head back home for the day. "I hope he can tell me stories of his many encounters later on."

I was walking home when someone was blocking my path and to my surprise it was All Might. He greeted me and I do the same after a brief hesitation due to just being surprised. He invited me to talk near a bench in the park and since I had nothing better to do, I accepted his offer.

"So how are you?" All Might said handing me a drink he had got from a vending machine.

"I'm doing great, sir," I said thanking him for the drink, "Just on my way home after a walk is all."

"Is that so?" he said sipping his drink.

There was an awkward silence, and it was natural since he just called me out of the blue and the last time we met was when he crushed Midoriya's dreams.

"So..." All Might said to break the silence, "Have you decided on which high school you want to attend?"

"Not really, no," I said, "I'm still deciding where to go or if I'll even attend high school."

"Are you struggling in classes or other problems!?" All Might got into a tense state and acted like a teacher conferencing one of his students.

"No no nothing like that," I said chuckling, "I'm just not so sure about my future and what I'm going to do with my life"

"Deciding what you want to be in the future is a complicated topic," All Might said putting his hand on his chin.

"Why did you become a hero All Might?" I ask.

"Why I wanted to become a hero?" All Might pauses and takes time to think, "I guess... I thought the world would be a better place if there was a symbol of peace. A place where I could save innocents and defeat evil."

"Well, you've accomplished your goal, haven't you?"

"I wouldn't say it's far from over but to some extent," He said with a smile.

"So, what was the reason you asked me to talk?" I asked.

"I noticed that you were watching me train young Midoriya"

I was surprised he noticed because I thought I was out of range for anyone to notice. That's a pro hero for you.

"Guess my secrets blown," I sheepishly said.

"It's okay," All Might said reassuring me, "Since you already knew the state I was in and how good of a friend you are to Midoriya, I was going to tell you eventually."

"So how is the training going?"

"It'll be tight, but I think he'll make it."

"That's good to hear," I said with a smile.

"You look happy," All Might said.

"More than ever," I said, "It was always Midoriya's dream to become a hero and he's finally getting one step closer to his dream while also being helped by his idol."

All Might smiles at my statement as he pats my head.

"You're a good friend Marcus really," he said, "I'm sure that whatever path you'll take you will end up being great at it."

After hearing praise from a person like All Might it made me embarrassed and a loss of words. All I could do was look down to hide my face and mutter a thank you as All Might laughed and playfully hit my back.

"Well, I have to get going now and help young Midoriya out," he said getting up from his seat.

"Thank you for today, and the talk," I said bowing as I got up.

"The pleasures all mine," he said telling me how my bowing was unnecessary, "If you need someone to talk to you know that I'll always be here for you."

"You have my gratitude," I said as he gave me his contact information.

I watch as All Might left and started to head home myself because it was starting to get dark, and I didn't want to be late for school.

"Helping the innocent and defeating evil," I repeat what All Might had said and thought about it, "Maybe with my ability, that can be something I can do as well."
