“I was there.”

...

...

...

...

...

I just stared at him.

It was impossible.

This town was 5 cities away from where I came from.

It was clearly impossible.

I laughed. I ignored his questioning stare. I laughed till I was on the ground, clutching my stomach. “You don’t believe me.” He said in disbelief.

“Why would I?” I looked up at him, my smile still present.

Then like in slow motion.

His look reminded me of someone I knew.

He was the guy who helped me run away. Their eyes were perfectly alike. Why haven’t I noticed it before?

“You’re not serious are you?” I asked him. Still denying the truth, the fact that he knows my past. That he was there from the beginning.

Is this a plan? Was he trying to take me back?

That was possible. He might be working with the enemy. He was using me!

How did I become so blind!?

I removed my hand as I stared at him, my eyes saying them all, the pain, the disbelief and the regret for trusting him.

His eyes widened as he grabbed my arm to stop me from walking away. “No! I won-“ I stopped him “And now you’re reading my mind without permission?” I shook my head in disappointment. This was too much.

“Will you just let me explain!” He said in exasperation.

I feel like I was a girlfriend who found him cheating.

Will you Grace just remove that awful thought, be serious for a moment!

“Go.” I said coldly.

He sighed, “My dad’s the Alpha of this pack, and he was supposed to train me to be like him. But he wanted me to learn from my own.” He sighed, looking at me in the eyes with sincerity.

“So he made me go to your pack. I attended the same school you were in. I admired you since I was a kid. I know about your sister, how they bullied you every day. I watched you stand up, you became my idol. I know about Luke, we’re the best of friends. I was asking you about him today because I know that you could use him as an inspiration…” he stopped.

I couldn’t help it. My knees went week, I fell to the ground. Eric just continued “He always tell me about you, he couldn’t shut up.” He sounded a bit irritated it made me smile.

“Then that time came, he told me that he was supposed to be dead. I helped him, and then his uncle, the alpha of the neighboring pack, found him. He asked me about you, he kept on pestering me so I was forced to look after you.”

“Then everything became a blur. I came to visit the pack days after the attack. I was looking for some clues near the forest when I heard a loud thud. It was hard to imagine that the girl I saw was you. But then the same face, only skinnier, looked at me with that horrid expression.” He sat in front of me.

I covered my face with my hands as I tried to blink back the tears. I remember it all. I had nightmares about it; I thought I was going to die.

I laughed, “You were really serious when you said you’re going to bring back Nathalie.”
