In the beginning world of Anipadra, there were two types of beings: Zeebríans and Lienthians.
Lienthians: Warm blooded shape shifters. Able to change into lions, but has the mindset of wolves/werewolves as well as lions.

Zeebríans: Cold blooded shape shifters. Able to change into crocodiles, but has the mindset of snakes/vampires as well as crocodiles.

Mate: A person specifically made for a shape shifter. The couple is supposedly destined to be together.
Imprint: An intimate mark on someone from a shape shifter's choosing. Once that person is imprinted on, the imprinted will have a choice to choose their mate or the person that has imprinted on them.
〰 Long ago, there was Amora. She was the first goddess, goddess of everything. In the beginning of her days, she created the two types of people, to coexist with one another. But one group betrayed her main, number one rule; "No killing of one another."
Amora became furious and cursed both groups in different ways.
Over time both groups became mortal rivals of one another.

The Zeebríans were given the lesser curse, in which they were able to remain in their human form and have the ability to change whenever they desired. However, they were not allowed to Mate with anyone unless the person themselves were of the same kind. Zeebríans can choose whoever they would like to mate with as long as they are a Zeebrían as well.
For the Lienthians, their curse was far much worse. For they were cursed to be stuck in their Lion form and are not able to shape-shift whenever they desired--until their mate was found. Once their mate has been found, then and only then will they be able to change back to their human form and have the ability to shape-shift whenever they'd like. Their mate does not have to be a Lienthian.
