CHAPTER TEN

ONE YEAR LATER

"Sasuke!" Sang the red-haired girl in the room in a hushed tone, nudging him awake.

He groaned audibly, turning sideways towards the wall to continue sleeping.

"Don't make me climb on you." She warned, flicking him carefully on the back of his head.

"Hn."

Nao jumped on him heavily, straddling him to force him to look at her."Wake up!"

"Damnit!" Sasuke hissed, sitting up on his elbows with an angry expression.

"Happy Birthday!" She smiled softly, leaning forward to plant an affectionate kiss on his cheek.

His eyes widened slightly."What?"

"It's July twenty-third! You didn't think I'd forget your birthday, did you?" She tilted her head to the side in a seemingly innocent manner.

"I don't celebrate my birthday." He answered simply.

"But I have a present for you!" She moved backwards off of his lap and onto the bed with a frown.

He ran his fingers through his hair to fix it."I don't want it."

"But I worked for three whole months just to get the money for it." She whined.

"You said you were picking up extra lessons from Kabuto." The Uchiha said accusingly.

"I lied. Sorry." She grinned happily, her lashes brushing her cheeks while she laughed.

"I haven't seen you in weeks, Nao."

"All for a good cause!" She bent over to grab a box from the floor, setting it down in the space between them.

Hesitantly, he reached out to open it, revealing a newly bought katana; with the Uchiha symbol inscribed on the handle.

He blinked slowly."Thanks."

"Can I sing for you?"

"..No."

"But I want to make you feel special!"

He smiled, ruffling her hair affectionately."I already feel special, Baka."

"Good! Cause I love you a lot!"

"Baka." The girl said softly, ruffling his hair."You wouldn't be my Sasuke if you didn't act like a jerk to me from time to time."

My Sasuke. The words rang over and over again in his head.

"I guess." He muttered, looking down at the ground in embarrassment.

"I love you a lot! So I guess I can accept your apology."

He scoffed in amusement at the memory, clutching the present box with a tight grip.

"Sasuke?"

"Hn. I guess I do too."
