CHAPTER SEVENTEEN ________________________ 7 MONTHS LATER
"Sasuke."
The seemingly quiet boy turned his head."Yes?"
"Have you ever thought.." Nao took a long pause, shaking her head."Nevermind."
"Spit it out." He nudged her.
"Have you ever thought about love?" She gulped, tapping her long fingernail against her cheek.
"Why?"
"Cause you said you loved someone before you left, but never told me who, ya know!" The Uzumaki said accusingly, poking him in the chest.
"You really wanna know?"
She nodded.
He shifted his body so that he was now facing her, his lone arm resting by his thigh."It's you, blockhead."
Silence
"Stop teasing me, Baka Sasuke!" She whined."Tell me!"
"I can't believe you think it wouldn't be you." He scoffed, rolling his eyes in annoyance."Nao. To me, your are the kindest, self-sacrificing, beautiful, amazing, and most extraordinary human being I've ever met. You see the good side of everyone, whether it be an enemy that we're fighting, someone who's out to get you, or just plain Orochimaru. And maybe that's why I care about you so much, even though I don't want to." He paused."You see the good side of me, the guy who convinced you to leave your only family behind selfishly so that he'd have someone he really wanted by his side."
Tears started to form in her eyes."I-"
"I'm kind of annoyed, because you wasted half of your childhood trying to make mine better. You fed me when I didn't want to eat. You ignored whatever had happened to you that day, coming to me with that idiotic smile you always have plastered on your face and attempted to make me happy. You made so many sacrifices so that I would be happy. And in the end, you truly succeeded."
"Sasuke-"
The onyx-eyed boy moved his hand up to move a strand of her hair behind her ear."This whole time, I've been on this soul searching journey. And I feel like I've finally come to an end. And what I found was you."
