CHAPTER NINE _______________________ 5 MONTHS LATER
"Kabuto's being an ass!" Nao whined, collapsing back onto the grass with sweat adorning her forehead.
"You're the one who wanted to study medical ninjutsu." Sasuke snorted, flicking her on the back of her head.
"I'm saying he's making it hard for me to enjoy it, Baka." She smiled lightly, ruffling his hair.
The sight reminded him of that time all those months ago, where the two of them sat together like that, just having pointless conversation until the sun set.
He shook his head, clearing his mind of the thought."Be grateful, blockhead! You probably wouldn't have the opportunity if it wasn't for me."
She continued to smile."Probably not. You're right."
But it wasn't her usual smile. It was forced, her dimples barely showing.
"Are you okay?"
The Uzumaki gasped dramatically."What's this? The emotionless guy is asking me if I'm okay? What an unusual thing."
"Forget I asked." He rolled his eyes.
"No, no! I'm just a little homesick. But who wouldn't be, right?" She answered truthfully, leaning back into the tree they were sitting by.
"You regret leaving?" He quizzed in low disbelief.
"That's not what I'm saying."
"Then what are you saying?"
"I love being here with you, where I'm not judged or hated. Where I get to learn things that I wouldn't have been able to at a place where nobody gave me a chance. You're so right. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you, and I'm so grateful." The red-head said softly, visibly calming as she talked.
"Why do you always have to do that?" Sasuke muttered in an annoyed tone.
"Do what?"
He adjusted his position on the ground."Act like I'm some sort of hero to you."
