It was around ten at night and Michael and Jeremy relocated from the couch upstairs to the one in the basement.
Jeremy decided that he would spend the night because of the sudden snowstorm. Also, Michael didn't want Jeremy to ever leave pretty much, but that was a different story.
Just their luck, as Jeremy went upstairs to make some microwave popcorn, the power cut off.
Not only would the microwave not work now, but Jeremy was slightly bothered by the dark.
He wasn't scared, per se, or he didn't use to be. Most of the nightmares he suffered took in the dark, whether it be in a forest or his house. Even though Jeremy knew he was out of harm's way, he continued to be unsettled.
Thankfully, Michael went upstairs with his phone light on to gather candles and the few lanterns his family had, but never used. He noticed Jeremy just standing there, hands slightly twitching.
He walked in front of Jeremy, careful not to startle him before they made eye contact. Jeremy looked so relieved when he realized Michael was there.
Michael wrapped his arms around Jeremy slowly, not wanting to make Jeremy flinch.
However, Jeremy did flinch slightly before relaxing into Michael's touch.
Jeremy's breathing slowed and his heart rate went back to normal. "Are you okay, Jer bear?"
"Y-yeah, I th-think so."
Michael grabbed Jeremy's hand and led him into the kitchen where various lights were kept in a drawer.
Jeremy grabbed a few candles and some matches and Michael grabbed the lanterns and batteries. When they had what they needed, Michael's phone was held awkwardly in his hands which were full, so he couldn't turn the light on.
The two probably looked incredibly ridiculous as they stumbled through the house and down the stairs, almost tripping a countless number of times, but they finally managed the difficult task of going downstairs.
As soon as Michael put the batteries in one of the lanterns, he realized he could've done that before they went downstairs so they didn't almost fall flat on their faces.
Neither of them had the brightest ideas.
After all the lanterns were on and the candles were lit up, the basement looked like something out of a movie.
Jeremy gasped as he got an idea, further proving his childishness.
"We should totally build a fort!"
Of course, Michael was on board.
The two went upstairs again, this time bringing a lantern.
The process turned out to be a lot more difficult than either boy thought.
They had to make several trips up and down the stairs, grabbing chairs, sheets, and fluffy blankets- which were definitely the most important part.
Michael wanted to warm the blankets in the dryer, but there was the whole power outage thing going on.
After a good hour of assembling the fort, Michael and Jeremy could finally relax. Well, almost.
As soon as they put some pillows in the fort, Jeremy was hit with an agonizing headache.
It felt like it did when his Squip reactivated for a few minutes, so generally he started to panic.
"Jeremy?" Michael was highly concerned by the way Jeremy's face contorted with the pain.
"Can you please get me some ibuprofen-" Jeremy hesitated, unsure if he was just being paranoid. "Uh... and some Mountain Dew Red? Just to make sure?"
Michael's eyes widened as he pulled the sheets aside and ran out of the fort, grabbing one of the lanterns. He went to the upstairs bathroom for the bottle of medicine as well as one of the emergency bottles of Mountain Dew Red he kept in his fridge.
He rushed back downstairs to his boyfriend and all but leaped into the fort.
Jeremy took two of the pills and washed them down with the Mountain Dew, and sure enough his achy headache was replaced by an even more agonizing sharp pain in his temple, causing him to scream.
It was over as soon as it started though, so Jeremy ended up feeling a lot better.
"That would've been a nightmare," Jeremy stated.
All of a sudden, for no reason at all, Jeremy and Michael simultaneously started laughing as if the funniest thing in the world just happened.
Once they calmed down, they lied on top of the extra sheet and draped themselves in blankets.
The blankets were thin, but the two would be cuddling as per usual, so they would be nice and warm.
Jeremy leaned over and peppered Michael's face with tiny kisses before Michael kissed him more passionately on the lips.
Jeremy's face heated up at this, despite the feeling being highly familiar.
"You know what?"
Michael held eye contact with Jeremy, responding to his question. "What?"
"I really love you, Michael."
Michael smiled, his gleaming eyes barely visible in the dark.
"I love you too, Jer Bear."
A/N: I decided to leave you hanging a little longer on that last chapter, you're welcome.
