A/N: Long overdue chapter, mostly a filler though.
There, Michael stood in front of the hospital bed, head in hands whilst inaudibly grumbling.
At last, he looked up and quietly spoke, not really sure what to say. "I knew the odds of us knowing the only other survivor is slim, especially since we only knew two other people there, but seriously? I don't know why I didn't expect this."
Michael sighed again and continued. "I drove over an hour for someone I don't even know. Of course."
Jeremy rubbed his boyfriend's back a few times before opening the door to call the nurse in.
Some nurse walked in quickly, looking forward to hear what the boys had to say.
Michael was still rubbing his temple in frustration, so Jeremy spoke instead, holding back laughter that might have been forced, but still laughter nonetheless.
"Yeah, w-we don't know who this is... at all. I'm really, really sorry."
The nurse had a glint of sympathy in her eyes, she could only guess how much time this took out of their day. "No, uh- don't worry. I'm sorry boys, I probably should've just sent you a picture, but there's just like confidentiality and stuff."
This time, Michael spoke up, calmed down slightly from his frustration high. "It's okay, we understand, right Jer?" Michael nudged Jeremy who seemed to be staring off into space, eyes wide.
"Huh? Oh, right!" Jeremy blushed as he chuckled nervously, slightly embarrassed. As if that wasn't awkward enough, the three were interrupted, but not by another doctor to come in and check up on them.
A long beep filled the room, cutting the silence that developed. The nurse gulped and walked out to retrieve more doctors, trying not to feel anything. She really hated death. She probably chose the wrong place to work, but she thoroughly enjoyed her job.
Jeremy and Michael on the other hand were straining their emotions, yet they didn't feel anything. This dead body in front of them was the least of there worries, plus it was probably the least emotionally draining thing they've dealt with in a while.
It was the sad truth, but it was the reality that they lived in and there was absolutely nothing they could do about it. So, they just dealt with it. It was really their only option at this point.
Everything was a blur as they were whisked out of the room, paramedics equipped with defibrillators filling the area where Michael and Jeremy once stood.
After some time of standing by the doorway, not knowing what to do, Michael spoke rather loudly over the commotion still abuzz.
"Ready to go back home?"
Jeremy slowly nodded, staring at the ground as he followed Michael out of the building and into his car.
Michael pretended not to notice how oddly silent Jeremy was on the ride. He did though, he noticed the lack of snarky comments towards his music taste that was all over the place. There was no talking about how excited he was about going home to play video games, no reading billboards in obnoxiously fake accents.
Jeremy wasn't asleep, he was just tired. Tired of what his life has become, tired of the things he's had to put up with.
Michael looked over at Jeremy, his eyes glazed over as he too was tired, but not in the same way.
Michael simply just wanted to go to sleep, preferably cuddling with his boyfriend.
He couldn't ignore the fact any longer, so he decided to talk to Jeremy.
"You okay?" Michael's voice could barely be heard over the sounds of the wind and cars passing, he really should have closed the window.
Jeremy looked out of his own window and shrugged, trying to avoid any eye contact with Michael.
"Not really." Michael usually knew how to react to things like this, but he was driving.
Jeremy seemed to read Michael's mind as he leaned his head against the window he just closed.
"Just drive."
