THE END OF THE ARCHEN-NARNIA ALLIANCE
what does this mean for the future?
( by head writer augustus the centaur )

Last night, High King Peter announced that all Narnian participation in the Treaty of Beruna, including the marriage arrangement which was supposed to take place only two weeks from now, was to be withdrawn with immediate action. This announcement apparently had no preparation, according to our inside representative of Cair Paravel, and ultimately came out of nowhere. Reports have stated that the High King had not acted like himself for at least a month, spending time secluding himself in either the royal library or his personal chambers. Whether we can reply on this information or not, nothing about this announcement seems right.

To give our readers some context, the Treaty of Beruna was established around five years ago, when the High King was only fifteen and King Lune of Archenland was nineteen. As both young rulers, and after the death of the previous King of Archenland, Lune's father, it was suspected to give stability to the young Kings reigns. However, due to the stable atmosphere in both nations, the  Treaty was mutually disregarded by both Kings two years ago. It originally detailed the betrothal and eventual marraige between the High King and King Lune's younger sister, Juno. Also, there were several trade and military agreements linked with the Treaty. In the summer, earlier this year, it was reinstated.

Now that the threat of war with Ettinsmoor looms over Narnia with little to no formal allies, where does that leave us? If there is a way to keep the peace, we hope High King Peter can figure out how to do so with minimal drama. Already there are many theories and stories as to why he resigned from the Treaty of Beruna. We're about to analyse those we think could be the truth, and those we think are absurd.

No. 1: Peter cancelled the marriage because he didn't love Juno or vice versa.
This is more likely than not. In the multiple public appearances the two have made together, there has been little to no romantic interactions between them. Yes, Juno had stated that she couldn't wait for her future life with Peter in a previous interview, but how reliable is this source when she didn't say why?

No.2: Either Peter or Juno love someone else.
Again, this maybe more truth than lie. We all know that there has been some forms of flirting or courting between Peter and Lady Athena, but was this love deep enough to cancel an alliance over? We can't know for certain, at least until one of the two can debunk some unfortunate rumours. (But everyone in the Cair Paravel Times office ships them anyway).

No.3: Peter and Lune have fallen out. Big time.
Very unlikely. The two are almost brothers. In his previous interview, Peter shared with us that he was considering Lune to be his best man if Edmund didn't want to for some reason. And, as Kings, I believe they know better than to cancel an alliance over personal and not political problems.

No.4: Peter is ill. Really ill.
If the reports of him being unlike himself recently are true, this is always a possibility, even though it is a rumour we don't like to hear. It would be in his nature to allow Juno to life a life free of an ill husband and, dependant on the severity, perhaps preventing her from becoming a widow. Okay, this one is definitely too sad to be true. At least, we really hope it isn't.

What do you think about this announcement? How will it impact the future of Narnia and Archenland? Which rumour do you think is mostly likely to be true? Keep reading the Cair Paravel Times to get the news!
