REAL LIFE
❛ TO YOUR UNION ❜Despite the fact the citizens were calling out her name and a resplendent crown rested upon the locks of her brunette hair, the new Queen of the land, Athena Pevensie, felt no more at home than she had done before. The dress falling from her shoulders and the green glint in her eye shone beyond her own capability — attempting to shadow her nervous doubt in the future. Though she had been proclaimed one of the most powerful women in all the land, the eyes which fell on the image of herself, walking hand-in-hand with the High King, still haunted her thoughts and scarred every move she made whilst they did so. She had never been an advocate from the limelight and she removed the thought of her ever bathing in it as the atmosphere so demanded, upholding her original ideas on the whole situation.
If it wasn't for the comfort of the High King's touch on her arm she was certain that she wouldn't have made it through the day so emotionally stable. In fact, if it wasn't for her husband's altruism and sincerity she would have been put off from the whole event in the first place. Even though she couldn't contain herself at the notion that she had finally married her love, she still felt a sting in her heart. There was always the possibility Peter would fall out of love with her — as many other Kings and Queens had before; she could only hope that it would never happen.
Albeit her inmost consciousness, her heart had overlapped with joyous jubilation at that very moment. She had married the most compassionate, charitable person that she would have, by no means, ever wished to marry, but there she was wearing Queen Helen's ring on her finger and he King Frank's and they had been pronounced High King and High Queen Consort of Narnia. It was not as if Athena's new title realistically held more responsibility than before, but there was always a nervous feeling that hung under the pretences of becoming a Queen - no less a High Queen.
"You're shaking, my love," Peter whispered, his lips brushing against the skin on her cheek - hiding his words under the mask of a kiss. "Is everything alright?"
She turned her head to face her husband, catching the closeness of Peter's lips with a returning kiss. Her palm reached the angle of his jaw, stroking it endearingly before replying with, "I could never be better, Peter. I could never be more alright." Her sentence was breathy, caught under the shadow of their lips and the bright candlelight of the ballroom, but the High King was still able to catch her words effortlessly. He shot her a grin, aware of the blush creeping onto his face like it used to when he initially discovered his love for her.
When Peter nudged her, firstly to notify her of the band of siblings bumbling into the room behind the, secondly to catch another kiss headed his way, his wife brushed forward and held tightly to the warmth of his hand to signal him of her moving. He briefly stepped aside to let the running train of her crimson wedding gown slide with ease as she strode to greet her new brother and sisters-in-law at the head of the ballroom. A glint of light to his side caused a discrete grin to appear on his face; Athena wore her crown and he felt as if she could not be any more irresistible than she was to him at that very moment. Peter was now, at last, at peace with his heart — it had finally gotten the scenario it had played to his head frequently.
