REAL LIFE
I MAY NOT LIVE TO
SEE OUR GLORY

Athena wrestled with a box full of clutter across her sleeping chambers, struggling with her leg brace fastened tightly over her injury and her body riddled with all different sorts of medicines. Her palms red from aching, she moved to the left, flopping down on her bed in exhaustion as the last couple of items were stored away.

The only thing that kept her awake was the sudden rapping at her door and a guard swiftly opening it.

"Hold up," she groaned, "I'm coming."

"It's Princess Juno, my Lady," the guard asked, bowing her head slightly before awaiting Athena's response.

"Let her in," she said. A small but grimacing smile crept to her lips in dismay. Juno was not the person Athena wanted to see right then.

And, within seconds, Princess Juno waltzed into Athena's chambers with a beaming smile plastered onto her face. She entered the area with grace and poise — the stark contrast to Athena's rough, military strides — and radiated the essence of true royalty in the eyes of others. Her hair flowed magnificently to her shoulders in a sea of rich brown, the type which had been cared for years in royalty that even a regal tone could be seen gliding from the strands. Athena straightened her back with a groan — half realistically, half trying to guilt trip Juno into helping her move the last few items of belongings from her room to the carriage outside.

"You don't have to go," Juno announced, breaking the inevitable awkward silence that was looming in the room.

Athena laughed to herself uncomfortably. "Have you seen the state I'm in? I can barely walk up the stairs without assistance. I need to be somewhere where I can look after myself properly."

"If I can't persuade you to stay. . ." Juno trailed off, her eyes wondering Athena's bedroom with pity. "Do you need help with that?"

"Please!" Athena cried for help as she slumped down on her bed with a sigh. "To be honest, I was waiting for someone to come and help the suffering cripple over her. Thank you."

"I know you'd do the same for me."

Athena internally grimaced. She knew she wasn't as kind-hearted as Lucy, as accepting as Edmund, or as selfless as Peter, or even as compassionate as Susan, but there was something inside her that pleaded not to do the same for Juno. There was not a particular reason for selfishness that surrounded Athena, per se, but perhaps an aura of jealousy — jealousy she despised herself for feeling. Juno was a spirited girl, one that didn't deserve Athena's subtle prejudice. The noblewoman hated herself for thinking of it, in fact. Nonetheless, she smiled at the soon-to-be queen, masking her true thoughts from the princess and continuing with the repetitive nature of packing boxes.
