REAL LIFE
❛ EVERYONE ATTACK! ❜The window was a chilled mist that haunted Peter's chambers through the entirety of the day. Clouds gathered over the castle and snow was tempting itself to fall. Of course, the late coolness of Winter had come to Cair Paravel as expected, but the looming essence of invasion cast a shadow across the minds of the Privy Council, all of whom had found themselves in what seemed like an endless meeting to discuss the situation in full. There were fawns, badgers, centaurs, and all other Narnian beasts imaginable lining the room, all awaiting the High King's orders. However, they had left long ago as the meeting had drawn on and on into the night. All who remained wore bags under their eyes and spoke with yawns in their words.
"What's our exact numbers?" Athena spoke, staring down at the map before her in a desperate attempt to figure something out.
Edmund yawned, "I've sent word to Lord Peridan to place our defensive army along the southern borders with Archenland. We've roughly a thousand infantry and cavalry with a hundred or so missile soldiers."
Lady Athena checked the map once more. Her fingers traced the bored between Narnia and Archenland quickly as she scanned her brain for an idea, but none came to mind. She sighed, looking up to Edmund, Peter and Oreius — the only ones who had bothered to stick around a little while more — with a puzzle pressed upon her face.
"And the estimate for offensive Archenland troops?" She asked, tilting her head up in speculation.
"Two thousand; there may be more," Peter said.
Her raised eyebrow lowered in search of any possible sign of success the Narnian forces could achieve if conflict took place. She flicked through her collection of notes swiftly, trying to find the right source of information that could change the course of the Council meeting. "We've more of a range — a higher standard — of men than Lune."
"Lune's a known skilled tactician. Plus, he knows the Narnian M.O.," Edmund said, scratching his back in the puzzling possibility of arranging a new strategy to achieve a successful defensive for his home. He sighed internally, watching as Athena and Peter exchanged a glance of worry, then a small smile. His eyes squinted as he observed the two return to normal expressions like nothing had happened. Edmund knew what was up.
Athena put her head into her hands as she scanned the ancient map of Narnia and Archenland which was stretched out across Peter's desk. Her expression switched between puzzled and thoughtful each beat that passed in the silence and hardly reacted to the small specks of sounds that occasionally rung through the room. She pulled her head back as Edmund fiddled around with a single strategy piece. As he twirled it, a thought popped into her mind.
