Hotch felt nervous as the team strapped on their Kevlar vests. Shaking his head he turned to address everyone.

"Morgan and Dave you go in through the back, JJ and Emily the kitchen. Reid and I will go through the front. Everyone clear?"

Scattered agreements and nods were the response.

"Alright. Let's go."

Hotch was creeping through the house. Suddenly, a faint ticking started.

Looking under the coffee table, Hotch saw a small bomb.

"REID GET OUT!"

Reid turned around to look at Hotch when he was shoved out of the house. He came to seconds later, his ears ringing, vision blurred.

"Spence. SPENCE!" JJ called, placing her hand on his shoulders.

Reid looked dazedly at JJ before looking back at the house. "What happened?" he slurred. He gasped as he suddenly realized.

Looking much like a baby giraffe, Reid attempted to stand up and run into the house.

"Hey, hey, hey!" JJ wrapped her arms around Reid, holding him back.

"He's still in there!" Reid cried. "He pushed me out I ha- I have to-" he panted. "Please," he weakly cried.

JJ guided Reid to the EMT and loaded him into the ambulance.

. . .

"So I'm cleared?"

"Yes, Dr. Reid. You're cleared," the doctor begrudgingly admitted.

"Good. Can you tell me what room agent Aaron Hotchner is in?"

The doctor's eyes grew wide. "What?"

"Aaron Hotchner, agent Aaron Hotchner of the behavioral analysis unit! Where is he?" Reid demanded, more out of panic than actual anger.

The doctor swallowed hard. "The ICU."

Reid's stomach dropped.

"He sustained major injuries from the blast."

"Can I- can I- s- see... him?"

The doctor only nodded, sadly watching as Spencer jogged away.

Skidding to a halt Reid's breath caught in his throat. Before him lay Hotch wrapped in gauze with a tube crammed down his throat.

Reid shakily took a seat next to Hotch. He sat in silence, not having the strength to say anything. Reid sat until visiting hours were over. He did this for the next three days.

On the fourth day, Reid went straight to the ICU and his heart stopped. Hotch's bed was empty.

Frantically, Reid ran to the front desk.

"Oh, he's been moved to a private room," the receptionist said.

Breathing a huge sigh of relief Reid followed the instructions to Hotch's room.

This time, a smiling Hotch greeted Reid.

"H- hi."

"Hi, Reid."

Reid awkwardly shuffled in and sat across Hotch.

"The nurses tell me you've been here every day."

Reid sank lower into his chair and blushed.

"Reid... is there something you wan-"

"I love you," he blurted.

Hotch blinked in shock.

"I- I love you, Hotch. I'm sorry," Reid whispered, tears brimming.

A few seconds of tense silence passed.

"Spencer, come here."

Reid cautiously got up and sat at the edge of Hotch's bed.

"Closer, if you don't mind."

Reid scooted within arm's reach of Hotch.

Hotch brushed a lock of hair from Reid's face, caressing his cheek and cupping his hand under the young man's chin. Slowly, Hotch pulled Reid closer until they were inches apart.

"This is highly unprofessional," Hotch whispered before letting his lips met Reid's.

The two pulled away bashfully smiling.
