3rd person POV

There was an open seat on the underground, an oddity during the morning rush so y/n eagerly grabbed it. Unfortunately, he took it with a little too much enthusiasm, causing him to partially sit on the person next to him.

"Oh sorry!" y/n said. He looked up and met the most beautiful pair of eyes he'd ever seen.

Smoked topaz maybe? he thought. Or maybe they're more of a russet... perhaps even—"

"Don't you think?"

Shit. He was talking that whole time, wasn't he? How did I not notice? He has perfect lips. They look so soft... If only I could touch them with my li— No! Snap out of it! Y/n shook his head slightly and sheepishly looked up at the handsome stranger.

"I- I'm sorry," he finally managed. "I didn't hear what you said."

The man laughed. "It's okay. It wasn't important."

"If you said it it's important."

The man's face turned pink.

"Crap. I said that out loud?"

He nodded.

"Omigod that was out loud too, wasn't it?"

Again, the man nodded, this time accompanied by a laugh.

"I- I am s- so sorry."

"It's okay."

The two sat in silence for the next few stops. The man stood up and turned to y/n.

"This is next one is where I get off."

What happened next is something y/n has never been able to explain but is glad it happened. Y/n pulled out a scrap of paper and a pen and hurriedly scribbled his number on it. He then stood up and decided to test his theory about the softness of this man's lips. As he did so, he slipped his number into the man's back pocket. Y/n pulled away and sat back down. He felt the man sit back down next to him.

"Isn't this your stop?"

He smiled. "My name's Spencer. What's your name?"

"Y/n."

"Well y/n, I think you're worth being late for."

Present day...

Your POV

I was unbearably nervous. As I waited at the table I fiddled with the small box in my front pocket.

"Dr. Spencer Reid, will you marry me?" I rehearsed. "No no no. Um. Spencer, will you do me the honor of... ugh no. Umm..." I frantically whispered several proposal options to myself before I saw Spencer and waved him over.

"Hi," I said.

"Hi," he responded. He looked so calm, but I knew that would change by the end of the meal. Hopefully, it would be a change for the better.

The dinner went smoothly and we were waiting for dessert.

Okay, I thought. Here it goes.

Spencer's POV

"Whatcha got going on this evening, pretty boy?" Morgan asked.

"Nothing," I responded.

"Bull," Emily said. "You're bouncing your leg and you've checked your tie three times in the last 10 minutes. Spill."

"I'm gonna propose to y/n tonight."

"Wow! Congratulations!" Emily cheered.

Morgan slapped me on the back. "I knew you had it in you!"

"T- thanks guys but," I took a deep breath, "he hasn't said yes yet. I- I don't even know if he's going to say yes."

"Of course he is!" Garcia shouted. "Sorry, I was on my way out and I heard cheering."

"It's okay." I looked at my watch. "I should get going. I don't want to be late."

"You got this!" Emily reassured.

"If you need anything we're here for you."

"Actually, I could use a piece of gum..."

Dinner was a complete blur. All I remember is seeing y/n at a table. His y/e/c eyes glowing. He looked excited, nervous even. I reasoned with myself that he wasn't and that it was just me projecting my emotions onto him.

"Hi," he said.

"Hi," I replied. I thought about proposing right then, but decided to wait, just in case he said no. That way at least we wouldn't need to sit through an entire dinner in that awkward space.

I blinked and we were ordering dessert.

Okay, I thought. It's time.

3rd person POV

"Spencer—"

"Y/n—"

The two laughed at speaking at the same time.

"You go first," y/n said, thinking what Spencer had to say would be shorter than what he had to say.

"N- no you first," Spencer urged.

The two laughed awkwardly and tried to settle who should speak first when y/n dropped the ring box.

"I'll get it," Spencer offered.

"No!" y/n shouted as he practically fell off his chair, landing with one knee on the ground.

Spencer, who was conveniently also on one knee, saw the box and stared at y/n with a gaping mouth.

"I- I was going to propose..." y/n said defeatedly. "I'm sorry I messed it u—" y/n had looked up at Spencer, who was holding up his ring box.

"I was going to propose to you," he said with a giddy smile. Spencer handed y/n back the box he dropped and, raising his eyebrows, opened his box.

Y/n did the same.

The two held eye contact for a few seconds before simultaneously saying yes. They exchanged rings and climbed back into their chairs.

"I love you," y/n said.

"And I you," Spencer replied.

The two ate their dessert and paid, leaving the restaurant an engaged couple.
