"Thank you all for coming in so early. We have a new member of the team." Hotch looked at you and nodded.

"Um, Hi. I'm y/n y/l/n. Call me y/n

"That's Emily Prentiss, David Rossi, Dr. Spencer Reid, Derek Morgan, Jennifer Jareau, and Penelope Garcia," Hotch said, pointing to each member. Looking back at you, he said, "Uh, please, take a seat."

You sat down and Garcia stood up and introduced the case.

"Alright crime fighters. Welcome y/n and I am so sorry that this is your first case. This is Rodney Neil, the newest victim of who Dallas police are calling, "the Poltergeist".

"Why poltergeist?" Reid asked.

"Good question, boy wonder. I advise the weak of heart to look away. He has been dubbed the Poltergeist because there's no trace of him, not one, even though he does this."

Garcia clicked to the next slide and up popped an image of Rodney, this time with his head bashed in and a broken vase next to him.

"He was also sexually assaulted. He is victim number four."

"Four? Why are we only being called in now?" Hotch demanded.

"Local police didn't see a connection until now."

"Why not?" Prentiss asked. "Leaving a broken vase near the body, that's a pretty specific M.O."

"Yeah but here are the other three victims."

"He's crossing gender, age, and ethnic groups?" Morgan observed.

"Socioeconomic too," you added.

"How can you tell that?" Garcia asked.

"Number one's got a silver watch on that's only been available for a month or so-"

"37 days," Reid interjected.

"R- right. Thank you. Anyway, he has that nice watch, but the girl, victim two, looks like she didn't have access to a shower or toothbrush regularly. Number three's a teenager. Presumably, she doesn't have a high-paying job. But her gel nails suggest that she's got access to some money and that she doesn't do manual labor or necessarily cook for herself."

The whole team stared at you, blinking in awe. Everyone except Hotch.

"Alright. We can't lose any more time. Wheels up in 20."

. . .

"NELSON JOHNSON! FBI!" Morgan's voice rattled through the halls of the abandoned hospital. You and the team had been working the case on and off for months and you finally found him.

"Nelson we don't want to hurt you. We know about your mother. What she did was wrong, but don't make someone else feel like that." When Hotch didn't get a response he walked forward, waving everyone to come closer.

You heard a cracking noise, followed by a whizzing. The next thing you knew you were on the ground, your abdomen burning.

"Y/N!" Hotch yelled. "We need a medic!" he shouted into his wire. "Hey, hey, look at me y/n. Keep your eyes open. Come on, come on. MEDIC! W- we- we need help." Hotch's shoulders began shaking. You felt warm tears hit your cheek.

"Hey, Hotch," you weakly mumbled.

"Shh shh shh. It's going to be fine. You're going to be fine."

You meekly shook your head. "Hotch I- I," you tried to take a breath but couldn't. "I love you," you finally managed.

"I- I love you too, y/n. From the moment you stepped into my office I- I loved you."

You tried to sit up but Hotch's hand pressed on your stomach to slow the bleeding stopped you. "Wh- why did- did you ign- nore me then? Y- you never smiled o- or s- said he- he..." your eyes started to close.

"No no no! Y/n!" Hotch shook you lightly and tapped your cheek until your eyes fluttered back open. Hotch sighed before continuing. "Th- that's just how I am. I don't smile a lot, but that doesn't mean you don't make my life better."

"Hotch?" you asked through a cough.

"Aaron. C- call me Aaron."

You nodded ever so slightly. "A- Aaron. Smile? F- for me?"

"Okay. Okay, y/n. I'll smile for you."

You grinned in response and let your eyes close for good.

Aaron felt that you were gone and let the smile fall off his face and replaced it with sobs. He leaned down and kissed your forehead.
