Real Girls Eat Cake - The Janoskians

Good Girls - 5 Seconds of Summer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been two weeks since I first walked inside this school.

Two weeks since I saw Ariana for the first time.

Two weeks that changed me a lot, even though nothing special happened.

Ariana didn't come to school today, I'm worried to be honest. I've been checking her wrists daily for the past fourteen days, she didn't stop cutting. I asked red-head - I know her name now, Carly, but I mentally still call her red-head - about Ariana's address and she told me, so here I am.

I take a deep breath, then I ring the bell. A few seconds pass until a pretty middle-aged woman opens the door, looking at me surprised.

"Good afternoon, I'm Luke.. I'm here to see Ariana", I say. I'm quite nervous to be honest. "Oh..", she sighs. Ariana definitely got her eyes, just ten times more beautiful. "She didn't come to school so I thought I should look after her..", I continue and she sighs again. "I'm sorry but Ariana likes to be alone.." "I know that! I mean, my friends told me but I thought.. well I'm the only one she sits next to in school so I thought maybe she also wants to see me.."

This is awkward.

"You're the only person she sits next to in school?", her mother asks. "Uhm yes.." "Well, anyway, I fear she won't want you to come inside, I'm sorry..", her mum says sadly. "Oh, okay.. Thanks anyway", I mumble.

Exactly at that moment a hand reaches outside and grabs my arm. Ariana's mother squeals and takes a step to the side, revealing Ariana. She's dressed in grey jogging pants and a black t-shirt, her hair tied back like usually. "I didn't hear you coming, you scared me", her mum gasps.

Ariana grins at me and pulls me inside. "You really want him to come in?", her mother asks confused and surprised. Ariana simply nods and walks upstairs. I quickly follow her, feeling her mum's eyes on me.

Ariana guides me into a big, bright room on the end of the floor. That's not how I expected it to be honest, I expected it.. dark.

Ariana's bed is huge and looks really comfortable. I hope I don't seem too curious but I can't help but look around. I notice a dashboard covered in white pieces of paper on her wall. What's that? I turn to Ariana, she's sitting on her bed watching me carefully.

"You didn't come to school", I say. She nods. I sit down next to her and ask, "Are you ill?" She shakes her head.

What an exciting conversation.

"Why didn't you come then? Did something else happen?" She gulps and looks down, then she nods. I carefully take her hand in mine and remove her wristbands. "And you cut again", I sigh. "Please stop that!", I beg but she shakes her head. "You've been through enough pain, why do you keep putting yourself into it?", I question. Her eyes widen, I guess she hasn't thought about it that way yet. She puts the wristbands back on, then she leaves the room.

Is she mad at me now? Is she hurt? Does she want me to leave?

I sigh and stand up, my eyes dart to the dashboard. I quickly walk over and look at the pieces closely. Those aren't simply pieces of paper! I turn one around and.. it's a picture! Why did she turn them around?

This one's a picture of her and a boy. He has dark blonde curly hair and hazel eyes. He's taller than her, not as tall as I am but still way taller than Ariana. He's wearing a white tank-top and smiles widely. I guess he's my age, maybe a little bit older. Ariana looks beautiful as always, even though she's looking different. She's wearing makeup and her hair isn't tied back like it's usually now. She looks really happy and comfortable around the guy. Who is he? Her brother? Her ex-boyfriend?

I hear steps and quickly turn the picture around. Ariana walks into the room, she's carrying two water bottles. She hands me one and sits back down on the bed. "Thanks", I say and sit down next to her.

"What do you do here all day?", I ask and look around once again. She shrugs and sips on her water bottle. "Does that mean you're doing nothing?" She nods.

Those conversations are going nowhere, why can't she just open her damn mouth and talk to me.

"You need to do anything! Do you watch TV?" She shakes her head. "Do you listen to music?" She shakes it again. "C'mon, I'm sure you do! You can't just survive without listening to music!", I say.

It's true, you can't.

She shrugs again and I roll my eyes. "So you just sit in here and do nothing all day?", I ask and this time she nods. "Well so we're gonna change that." She looks at me confused and I continue, "I'll pick you up at 5 tomorrow afternoon. We're going to the fair."

With those words I stand up. She gasps and probably shakes her head but I laugh and leave the room.

Her mum's waiting downstairs. "Thanks for the water, I didn't need it", I tell her. "I'll pick her up tomorrow afternoon, if that's okay." Her eyes widen and before I can leave she grabs my arm and whispers, "How did you do that? She hasn't interacted that much with anyone since.. it happened. Not even with me or her dad. She even smiled earlier.. I saw it. She did. What did you do to her?" "I really don't know. But I promise, I won't ever stop doing whatever makes her happy", I say smiling and her eyes water.

Oh god, time to leave.

"Well, thanks for having me, I need to go. Good afternoon", I quickly say and walk outside.

I take a deep breath, which's exactly what I did before I entered the house as well.

I will get Ariana to talk.

I know I will.

I will make her happy again and I will make her forget about everything horrible that has happened.

And I won't stop until I surrender.
