*Mars' POV*
"Mars! It's time for you to go to school." I woke up to someone tapping on my forehead. Something that annoyed the heck out of me. I opened my eyes slightly to see Adrianna. Another worker here. She was a lot nicer but wasn't here the majority of the time because of college.
"Mars. Wake up. You got school." She said shaking me lightly. "Okay. Okay. I'll get up." I shooed her away. She left out my room as soon as she saw me getting up. My face still hurt from the other day. I looked over at Delilah. She was still sleep.
Delilah didn't go to school because Adrianna said she would home school her. I went the closet and turned to my side of it. I choose jeans with a white shirt, jean jacket, gray beanie and white vans. I went to the bathroom to get dressed and when I came out Delilah was awake.
"You have school." She groaned hugging Brown Sugar. "I'm sorry but Melissa won't let Adriana homeschool me like she let you." I frown at her. "But what if Melissa hurts me." She said with sad eyes. "Then come to my school and go to the office." I said sitting next to her. "Will they let me stay there?" She looked up at me. "I promise they will." I hugged her.
"Mars, if we don't get going we're gonna be late." Adrianna said coming into the room. Adrianna always dropped me off at school before she went to school. "Alright. I'm coming." I gave Delilah one last hug and left with Adrianna.
"So how's Delilah?" She asks as we pull out of the parking lot. "She's...okay I guess." I sat looking out the window. "I heard about what happened the other day." She says slowly. "Oh." I reply not wanting to think about it. "Why did Delilah leave?" She asked looking at me. I shrugged. "Was she scared or was she being bullied again..." Adrianna inferred.
"Maybe both. Melissa hasn't been very nice." I say glancing at her. She took a left turn. "I know and I'm sorry that I can't do anything about it. It's just she won't believe me." Adrianna says as I join in when she starts the last sentence. That's the excuse she gives every time. She won't believe me. Of course she won't. Adrianna pulled into the parking lot of my school. "Your welcome for the ride. Have a nice day." She said as she ruffled my hair. "Yeah. Thanks." I say stepping out the car and closing the door.
I entered the school and went to my locker. I looked across. Hazel's locker. I was supposed to show her it but never got around. Maybe after school or lunch.
Out of the corner of my eye I see something red coming towards me. "Hey Mars." I turn my head to see Olivia standing their wearing a red crop top with washed out jeans and as usual with her red hair in braids and her thick black rimed glasses.
"Hey." I smile to her. Something felt off. "So you wanna hang out after school?" She asked. I gave a puzzled look. "We're dating. Remember. Thought it be nice to spend time together." She smiled pushing her glasses more on her face.
Thats what it is. What did I do! "Um, I'm not sure. I have to ask-" "Melissa?" She said cutting me off. "Yeah." I said unsure. Maybe "dating" Olivia will get my mind off Hazel. It can't be that bad. Right? "Well text me when you get an answer. I got to go." Olivia said pecking my cheek and skipping off.
I grabbed the textbooks I needed and walked over to the group. Please don't let it be awkward. Everyone's here. Ryan was sitting on the floor copying Hazel's homework as usual, Grant was in his locker, Bryan and Hazel were on their phones and Andrew was admiring Bryan from afar.
"Hey guys." I said making everyone's eye contact turn to me. "Hey." Ryan said looking up. "Hi Mars." Hazel waved to me. I waved back. "So anything new going on?" Grant asked. Obviously knowing everything that's happened. We all shook our heads not wanting to talk. It felt awkward.
Suddenly I felt something latch onto me. I looked down to see Olivia hugging me. "Hey." She smiled up at me. "Hey." I hug her back. The group looked confused. Out the corner of my eye I could see a bit of pain in Hazel's eyes but leave as soon as it came when Bryan and her made eye contact. What am I getting from this? I want to be with Hazel but she doesn't want to be with me. Maybe....making her jealous will work.
I looked at Olivia. "Hey we can hang out after school if you want." "Okay. That'd be great!" She blushed. "I'll see you later then." She pecked my cheek and walked away.
I turned towards the group who stood there frozen in their place. Grant's jaw was open, probably confused on why he wasn't told that Olivia and I were dating. "What. Was. That?!" Andrew gawked. "What we're dating." I say shrugging it off. "Since when?!" Bryan said. "Since Friday." I said bluntly. "Okay...." Ryan said standing up. "Anything else new?" He continued giving Hazel her homework.
Grant started laughing. I hate how we tell him everything. Hazel looked at him with concern. "No." Andrew shook his head. The bell rang for first period. "More dead people. Yay!" Andrew said sarcastically doing jazz hands. "Well then lets go." Hazel said. "Bye guys." She said as she walked off. The rest of them left and I started to walk to my class.
Then I hear Grant. "You didn't tell me." He puzzled. I knew what he was talking about. "I wasn't sure on how you'd act." I shrug. "But your dating Olivia James. The girl who only wants to kiss you. I thought you hated her." He said as we walked around the corner. "Well now I don't." I said bored. "But I though you liked Hazel." Grant said whispering. I stopped and turned to him. "I do." "Then why Olivia?" He asked. "I-I-I don't know?" I say stuttering and looking anywhere else but at Grant.
"Are you scared she's gonna reject you or something?" He asked. I shook my head. "Then are you dating Olivia if you like Hazel?" Grant said as fewer people were in the hallway. "Cuz she's been hanging out with Bryan lately and-" "You think she likes Bryan?" Grant cut me off. "Does she?" I said looking him in his eyes. He looked at me but looked away all to soon. "She....does." I said trying to hide the sadness in my voice. He looked down. I honestly might cry.
The bell rang. I couldn't take this. I left him standing there and I went to class. Behind me I could hear his plead. "Mars...don't be sad."
Too late
