Chapter 17

Fourth Period.

Still no Mars

I sat in the back next to Mars' original seat listening to the teacher talk about how our project was due Friday. Suddenly the door swung open.

It was Mars.

And with him, holding his hand, was the little girl. Her eyes were red and she was still holding the bear. "Mars, is everything okay?" The teacher asked. He shook his head, his eyes were red from crying as well.

Most of the girls were wondering what happened and kept asking if he was ok. "Do you wanna go to the counselor's office?" The teacher asked. He shook his head and went to sit down in his seat.

He sat the girl down next to me and someone moved so he could sit next to her. He still didn't saying anything. "O-Okay class. I-I'm going to l-let you work on your project. G-get to it." The teacher said shaking. Clearly knowing Mars' situation and clearly horrified.

I turned towards the girl who was looking up at me with a small smile on her lips. "Hi." I said gently. Suddenly a group of girls came up to Mars. Including Olivia. "Baby, are you okay?" Olivia said gushing.

The little girl turned to Olivia immediately. "Mars is fine. We can handle our own situations. Now if you could leave him alone. That'd would be appreciated." The little girl said firmly; all of her tears now gone.

Olivia stood there. Speechless. Out the corner of my eye I could see a smirk on Mars' face. "I'm sorry." Olivia was puzzled and annoyed but left with the other girls.

"We should get started on our project." Mars said looking at me. "Yeah." I said getting out my laptop and the sheet of paper. He got out his and we opened the document. "What's your name?" The little girl looked up to me. I couldn't help but smile.

"My names Hazel. What's yours?" I asked the girl. "My name is Delilah Rose Neil." The girl stuck out her free hand and I shook it. "How do you know my brother?" She asked. "We're friends." Mars said before I could.

"Oh I thought you were dating." Delilah said normally. Mars looked at her suspiciously. "Hazel, where were you born?" He asked typing in the category and ignoring his sister's remark.

"I was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. How about you?" I asked as he typed that in. "I was born in St. Petersburg in Florida." He smiled. "That's pretty far." I smiled back at him. "Yep. I'm a pretty far boy from a pretty far place." He said.

"What does that even mean?" I laughed. "Not sure. Heard it on a movie once." He shrugged. "Are you guys sure you're not dating?" Delilah asked for clarification.

"No we aren't dating and Mars already has a girlfriend." I pointed towards Olivia. "You do?!" Delilah said surprised. "Y-Yeah." Mars hesitated. Why did he hesitate? "Um so last question. What do you want to do with your life?" Mars asked.

"I'm not sure yet." I asked thinking. "What do you want to do with your life?" I asked. "I want to be a professional soccer player." He grinned. "Awesome." I laughed.

"I want to be an astronaut!" Delilah giggled. Her positivity was contagious and I laughed too. Mars looked from me to Delilah. "Hazel, don't you have a little sister?" He asked. Delilah's eyes brightened.

"Yeah." I said knowing what he was getting at. "Delilah's 9. How old is your sister?" He said. "She's 9 also. They should meet and hang out and stuff." I offered. "Yeah. What do you think Delilah?" Mars looked at his sister.

"Are you serious!" Delilah squealed quietly, trying not to disrupt the class. Mars nodded. "That would be amazing!" she bubbled. "Cool. When can they meet?" Mars asked me. "Tomorrow after school. We could walk to your place and get her then walk back to mine." I suggested. Delilah's face fell a little. "You're gonna leave me there!" She cried.

"No. How about I bring her to school tomorrow and we just walk to your place from here." He said turning to me. "Okay. That seems great!" I smiled at Delilah.

I can't wait for her to meet Sabrina. They seem a lot alike in interest. Hopefully Sabrina will like her.

And hopefully this isn't Delilah's first friend.

Note: I pre-write the chapters so I can see if I want to change anything in the future or something. [17 and 18 are already done. I just wait to update so I can see how you guys feel about it. 19 is in process. ;) ]
