The metro rumbled on beneath Jonathan's feet while he stared at the ground in a daze of lucid light that shone through the window behind him lost in no thought in particular, but his silent trance was broken when a set of tattered shoes entered his view.
Jonathan blinked a few times, wetting his dry eyes before he looked up at the man that had just taken the seat in front of him. He was a tall man, a deep frown set on his face as he looked at the ground much similar to how he was just a moment ago. But Jonathan noticed the way his pink hoodie was blotched with small dots of red and further study of the man's face showed him the dried blood that had run down his lip and dribbled off his chin.
"Excuse me?" Jonathan asked soft, leaning forward slightly and tilting his head to the side in innocent curiosity. The man looked up at him with hard midnight blue eyes and gave a gruff, "What?"
Jonathan was taken aback a small bit but he grunted lightly to himself solidifying his resolve. "Are you okay?" he asked simply, and instantly the man's face softened and he nodded almost bashfully. "I'm fine," the man gruffed and Jonathan sighed lightly through his nose, grabbing his backpack from beside him and pulling out a tissue. "Here," Jonathan said, offering the man the tissue.
The man gave him an unsure look but he took it anyway, it gave Jonathan an elevated feeling and he smiled, bright and sincere. The man paused for a second when their eyes met, and for the first time in what was probably a while, he smiled. Jonathan could tell, it seemed unsure and a little awkward but it made a warmth bloom in his chest as he held out his hand. "I'm Jonathan."
The man smiled a little wider and took his hand, his calloused palm was rough against his own and his smile grew brighter in the light of the metro and his voice a bit lighter as he said, "Tyler."
