HAPPY NEW YEARS! ;P
New Year's Eve in Los Angeles consisted of many, many noise complaints, the googling of how to tell gunshots from fireworks, drunk people hooking up for dirty back-alley blowjobs, and of course the overwhelming sound and bustle of a new year's party.
His house was filled to the brim with all sorts of people, ranging from hockey buddies he hadn't talked to in months all the way to the group of girls he met at the store when he was buying presents a few weeks ago. And but of course, the party couldn't be complete without his friends.
Tyler and Kelly were crying with laughter as Craig and Sami danced along to the current song playing. David and Lui sat on the love seat, beers in hand and intently watching a video on the Irishman's phone, probably a football game, and Evan sat in the chair near the large windows overlooking the city, but he was interrupted from his thoughts by his phone buzzing in his pocket. He unlocked the device and raised an eyebrow at Luke's messenger bubble in the corner of his screen with an unread message.
I know we don't talk much
But...
Happy new years man.Evan felt a smile curl the corners of his lips as he typed a quick reply.
Yeah
Happy new years
:)He could only hope it didn't seem as awkward as it felt, but just as he was about to slip the phone back into his jeans and continue looking out the window, his phone buzzed again.
Also.
Probably worth mentioning.
I'm walking up to your front door right now.Evan eyed the message questionably before looking over to the front door just in time to see Luke open it. He stepped through with and smile and turned around but his face falling into a stern expression before he reached a hand outside and pulled someone into the building.
Evan's breath caught in his throat and he nearly dropped his phone. There was no way. It couldn't be him, could it? After all this time, in front of all these people. It doesn't make sense.
Luke spotted him almost immediately and Evan suddenly noticed how thin the crowd has gotten since the party started at nearly three in the afternoon. When he looked back towards Luke again the man was right in front of him, a small grin on his face as he patted him on the shoulder.
"Hey man, there's someone you should meet. Like, now."
And before Evan could protest Luke was dragging him out of his chair and across the make-shift dance floor, through the thinning crowd and to a tall, lean man standing by the door who was picking at his cuticles and nervously sucking his lips between his teeth as he looked around.
Their eyes met immediately and it felt like the room had suddenly become empty. It felt like hours had passed before either of them spoke. "Delirious?" it was a simple question, one that he honestly never expected to ask, not until he was older --at least thirty or so-- and youtube had been dead for years.
Yet here he was. Sun-kissed skin and red hair that made an odd canvas for his light blue eyes to adorn, but it was Jonathan, so of course, there had to be at least one odd thing about him. "Yeah," Jonathan said, breaking Evan out of his trance. His chest felt light in excitement and anxiety, but before he could really think of what to say next his body moved for him, wrapping his arms around Jonathan's broad shoulders.
Evan chuckled into the older man's shirt, resting his forehead against Jonathan's chest. "Damnit, ya tall fucker," he huffed, "It's really you..." he squeezed a bit tighter and Jonathan did the same, nodding. "Yep, it's me." There was a faint smile in his voice, a hint of amusement that he probably would have missed hadn't they been so close.
