Heart of Darkness// part 2

A couple of days after that Harry Potter date, Hayley was rushing towards the drama room when she spotted Archie sitting down on one of the benches in his football uniform, trying to wrap up an injured hand.
She sighed and looked down at her phone to see how much time she had before rehearsals started. She frowned when she realized that if she stopped to help Archie, she'd be late.
Finally, the girl walked up to the boy and sat beside him, surprising him.
Archie looks up and sighs in relief when he spots Hayley, "Hey."
She takes the wrap from him and lightly grabs his hand, "Hey. Isn't this your playing hand?"
Archie nods sadly, his face still a bit twisted in pain and looks down.
Hayley sighs, "Arch. This hand is your instrument. You need to take better care of it. And, you know, stop punishing yourself while you're at it."
Archie looks up, "I'm not."
"You sure?" Hayley prompts.
"I got slammed because I didn't know the play. I didn't know the play because, like an idiot, instead of memorizing my plays I was up late last night. Working on some of my songs with Valerie. God, I'm such an idiot."
Hayley sighs and finishes wrapping his arm, "Okay. Good as new," she brings it up to her face and kisses it lightly, "But try to take better care of it. That hand is going to be worth millions one day."
Archie smiles as Hayley gets up. She grabs her bag and turns to walk away.
"See you tonight?" Archie calls out.
"I'm busy," Hayley calls back, not bothering to turn around, "Got plans with the devil."

"Thank you for having us," Veronica speaks up awkwardly at the dinner table.
Hayley was here, as she said she would be, at Cheryl's sleepover, and she was not having fun. Hayley could handle Cheryl. Hayley liked Cheryl. Cheryl's parents, on the other hand, could disappear and Hayley wouldn't even bat an eye.
Cheryl's mother smiles tightly, "Cheryl invited you. I have no idea why either of you are here."
"Me neither. I thought there'd be other girls," Veronica responds.
Clifford stabs a piece of ham with a knife and lifts it up, "Nana Rose, would you like some more ham?"
When she doesn't say anything, Clifford turns his attention to Hayley.
