Body Double// part 3

--

"Football players behaving badly, what else is new?" Veronica comments as she, Ethel, Betty, Hayley and Kevin walk the empty hallways of the high school, "Steubenville, Glen Ridge. The coach's son being the ringleader. I mean, just how depraved is this town?"

"Color me impressed," A voice startles the five friends, causing them to turn around with a gasp. They all groan on the inside when they realize that it's just Cheryl. Right now, they would rather take their chances with the principle.

"A B and E with B and V and K. What would your holy roller mothers say about this, Hayley and Betty?" Cheryl smirks and sets walking towards them.

"What are you doing here, Cheryl?" Betty already sounds frustrated even though Cheryl had just arrived.

"And where did you get those thigh-high boots? They're amazing," Kevin looks at legs and Hayley smacks him with her flashlight. He yelps and looks at her with an offended look.

"Trev told Valerie, who told Josie, who told Ginger, who told Tina, who told me. And I thought I would help out." Cheryl stops right in front of them.

"Help? Or derail our investigation?" Betty narrows her eyes.

"Get over yourself, Betty." Cheryl shines her flashlight right in Betty's face.

"Hey guys, get in here," Ethel's voice from the boys locker room snatches the attention of everyone and their heads snap over to the door. They didn't even know she had gone in. The four friends give Cheryl one last look of suspicion before rushing in the room where Ethel stands in front of an open locker with the book in her hand.

"Trev was right," She says and Cheryl moves her flashlight over it to read it better, "They didn't even bother to hide it."

"New girl? Is that what I'm reduced to?" Veronica reads off the paper, "Nine points?"

"Better than 'Big girl' Seven point five," Ethel scoffs, her voice breaking like she was about to cry. She turns the page and Betty gasps.

"Polly's in this book," She looks stunned.

"Next to Jason's name," Cheryl and Hayley whisper at the same time. Betty takes one look at Cheryl and moves away from the book, her hands in her hair and her face reddening.

"I'm so sorry, Betty," Veronica is the first one to speak.

"This isn't-" Cheryl stutters, like she doesn't completely believe what she's saying, "Jason would never-"

"It's right there, Cheryl! God. Your brother hurt my sister. This is what guys like Jason and Chuck think about women. We're objects for them to abuse. And when they're done with us, they shame us into silence. They have zero remorse for the lives they destroy," Betty exclaims angrily as Cheryl takes it all in.
