Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!// part 3

Archie Andrews plops on his bed with a sigh. He was happy to have finally performed live, but he couldn't shake a weird feeling of worry. After Hayley disappeared from the school, he tried to find her, but she was no where to be seen. No one had seen her leave, and he didn't know what to think.

ring ring

The sudden ring from his night stand startles him and he jumps up. He grabs his phone quickly and accepts the call without looking at the caller ID, hoping that it's Hayley.

"Hayley?" Is the first thing he says.

"Not exactly," Jughead's voice comes through the phone, and Archie's shoulders drop.

"Archie, I'm bring Hayley over," that got his attention.

"She's with you? Can I talk to her?"

"No," Jughead hesitates, "Look, we found Jason's car. Someone torched it. All Hayley saw was his car in flames, Archie. She didn't take it too well."

"Oh god," Archie sits up and grabs a shirt from beside his bed, "Where are you?"

"I'm at my dad's trailer. We needed to get her some water as soon as possible. She's with Betty right now," Jughead answers and without a second of delay, Archie heads out of his room.

"I'm coming to get her. Don't move," he orders.

——

Archie Andrews had driven before, sure, but it  he had never driven alone. Now as he sat in his dad's truck, quite recklessly driving towards Jughead's, he couldn't help but curse himself. He should've driven alone more after getting his license.

When he finally reached the trailer, he hastily walked up to the front door, knocking loudly. Jughead opened up not even a second layer.

"Hey man, we've been waiting for you. She's not really saying much," Jughead greets his best friend.

Archie nods wordlessly and Jughead then leads him into his house.

The first thing Archie sees when he walks into Jughead's room breaks his heart.

Hayley is sat on Jughead's bed with a void look on her face. It's almost like she's stopped feeling. Her face is completely blank. There is no trace of sadness or anger.

"Hayley?" His own voice sounds foreign to him as he calls out for her. She turns her head slightly and nods as if to acknowledge his presence.

He walks further into the room and Betty stands up. He hadn't even noticed she was there. His eyes snap over to hers as she walks towards him.

"Take care of her," she whispers. Archie nods as Betty leaves the room to give them some privacy, Jughead following her steps.

"Hey," he says to her, "let's go home yeah? Do you want to go home?"

"Yeah," it's the first word Hayley says to him and he can't help but feel his heart clench at the amount of pain he hears.

——

It wasn't a fun night for either Archie Andrews or Hayley Cohen. They didn't talk much. Actually, they didn't talk at all.

When he first pulled into Hayley's driveway, Archie didn't know what to expect. He wanted to stay with her, of course. He wanted to make sure she was okay. He just didn't know if she wanted him to stay. He got his answer when Hayley opened the door of the car and stepped out. She stood outside for a second, waiting for him to get out. Archie shut the engine off and joined her. The couple walked to the front door and Hayley dug in her jacket pockets for keys. Archie understood what this meant. Her parents weren't home.

He knew how things worked when Hayley was upset. She'd shut herself off completely and sit silently, refusing to talk to anyone. As much as this infuriated Archie, he knew that he couldn't force her to do something she didn't feel comfortable doing. He would just have to wait until she felt like she could open up. And he was willing to wait. He wasn't in a rush. He would wait for her for a lifetime.

That's what he was doing right now. Waiting. Hayley fell asleep in his arms hours ago, but he couldn't follow suit.

As Archie held Hayley close, he couldn't help but stare at her. If the night hadn't been so eventful, he probably would've laughed at himself. He always found it weird when guys watched their girlfriends sleep. Guys like Edward from Twilight. It's creepy and weird. Yet, here he was, doing the same thing.

He wasn't staring just for the sake of staring. Neither was he staring because he was mesmerized by her beauty or some other romantic crap. It was kind of like when you're thinking so hard, that you just start looking at one place and eyesight completely blurs.

He was thinking. He was worrying. He was worrying about a lot more than kids his age should have to worry about.
