Vanessa POV

"I'm at the airport right now."Malaysia said into the phone.

"What?! Why? I thought you weren't coming until tomorrow!"I exclaimed.

"No, my flight was today. Girl come get me, it's freezing out here."She whined. "Okay, I'm coming."I replied before hanging up the phone. Malaysia and I had been planning her trip to Louisiana to see me, for a year and a half now but she got so caught up with whatever is going on in her life back in Detroit. It is hurricane season and the winds are picking up but I just checked the weather a few minutes ago, no hurricanes hitting over here any time soon. It's still summertime, so I plan on taking Malaysia to Blue Bayou and Dixie Landin' one of these days before she has to leave again. I have hella other things planned for us to do but I didn't expect it to be this soon.

I changed into my usual, black sweatpants and a long sleeve shirt. I slid on my black slides, fixed the bonnet on my head and grabbed my keys to leave.

I made sure to lock the door to my apartment and proceeded down the hall and to the elevator.

In no time, I made to the New Orleans airport.

"Where you at?"I asked, into the phone.

"I'm right here,"She started but then screamed. "Hey bitch! I see youuu bitch! Standing by the Ferrari bitch!"She screamed. I spun around to see her running towards me with her suitcase trailing behind as she dragged it along.

"Oh my gawd girl I missed you! Detroit's not the same without you!"She screamed in my ear as she rocked me while we hugged.

"I missed you too, frien'."I replied.

"Why you not hype? Bitch ian seen you in years,"

"Four,"I finished.

She let go of me and stood back to look at me.

"Girl oh my gawd! You're getting so big."She smiled, sounding like a proud mom.

"I know,"

"You used to be skinner. Why you hiding ya body in these baggy clothes?"

"I don't have time to get dressed up. I don't go anywhere to get dressed up."

"You're not the same as before, back in Detroit."Her smile dropped when I said that. "People change."I mumbled. On the inside, I actually was happy to see a familiar face. I just couldn't bring the happiness out, from the inside. I know I sounded boring as hell and calm, but that's because I don't have communication with the people from the outside world. I mean, I talk, only when I'm forced. But now, I don't have to be forced now that Malaysia's around. "Get in! You gotta give me all the tea from back home."I told her. I helped her put her suitcase in the trunk of my Ferrari before we both got in. This is not the same Ferrari as the one I had back in Detroit. I couldn't stomach to still have a reminder of Layla. I used to drive her around in all of the cars in that garage. So, before I left Detroit, I sold two of the cars; both of my parents' cars and burned the Audi, the old Ferrari and Tam's BMW. I couldn't stomach to have a reminder of any of them. I haven't seen my parents since the day before they were taken away. The jail that they're in, is so strict that it isn't allowing any visits from anyone, just phone calls. They're both instructed to serve life in prison, so I'm slowly accepting the fact that I won't ever see them again.

"Ooh girl, where do I start? I don't even know, it's so much shit going on down there that I don't have time for!"She jokingly whined while popping her gum and picking at her stiletto nails.
