Mynetta POV

"Bring me prisoner 46320!"The judge demanded. I️ approached the judge who stood before me with my ankles handcuffed and my wrists handcuffed. I️ was in a jumpsuit and my hair was standing all over my head. My hair was nappy and unkept. In jail, there was no make up, no hair supplies, no new clothes or shoes. I️ had been wearing the same shoes for the past three years, every day all day. They were battered, broken down and looked horrible. There were no tooth brushes either so I️ just knew that my breath smelled like dead animals and my teeth were probably the color of the sun. In jail, there were no mirrors. I️ was so close to forgetting what I️ looked like but I️ had pictures. In my cell, pictures of my wife and I️ were pinned to the wall as well as my two kids, Alicia and Angel. Letters written back and forth between my wife and I️ also hung on the wall.

When the judge had requested to see me, I️ had peeled off all of the pictures and letters and stuffed them in my shoes.

While I️ was serving time in jail, flashbacks and memories of my past life would run through my mind fast like a fire spreading. I️ often wondered if Alicia was still the same kid and if my wife still loved me like before. I️ never got a chance to meet my other baby, Angel, because she was born a few months after I️ was sent to prison. I️ have a feeling that some things have changed and I️ hope that it was for the better. I️ can't wait for these next four years to pass so I️ could go home and get my life and family back on track.

Why would the judge want to see me though? I️ mean, I️ know I️ got into a few fights with a number of other prisoners but I️ thought that I️ worked past that with the officers of the jail that knew about the altercations.

"I'm here sir."I️ spoke in a low tone, avoiding eye contact with him.

"Your prison sentence is over and your ticket of leave has begun."He started.

"That means I️ am free?"I️ asked.

"No, you've begun parole for the next four years. But you are free, just don't violate your parole and everything will be fine."He explained. I️ couldn't help but to be cheesed up, showing off my yellow teeth and colorful tongue.

"Now scat before I️ change my mind."He barker which made me jump. The officers scrambled to my side, unlocking the cuffs. They led me outside of the court house which was right in front of the jail. They disappeared and the world around me came back to life.

"I️ am free?"I️ asked myself.

I️ thought to go to a nearby store and ask to use a telephone but I️ couldn't walk up in there like this. I️ was still in the jumpsuit and I️ looked unpresentable. I️ started what would be a long journey towards home.

But then I️ realized that I️ couldn't just casually walk up in there like this. That'd be a bad impression on my kids. I️ opted to finding a hotel and getting my life together before reuniting with my family.

It's been a week and I️ was able to find a job two days ago. I️ was able to sneakily steal a toothbrush and make myself look presentable enough to book a hotel. And before I️ did that, I️ got a job at a strip club.

Tonight was my second work night and it was good money so far. Last night, I️ left with a thousand dollars. If the customers tonight were as good as last night, I'd be able to buy myself a look way more presentable to meet my family.

I️ walked to the strip club and went straight to the back. But something stopped me. I️ saw a short brown skin lady that looked so familiar. She looked like my wife. I️ pulled the picture out of my shoe and held it up. "That's her."I️ whispered to myself as I️ watched her. She started walking towards me so I️ ran and hid behind a nearby curtain. I️ watched her walk down the hall and into the bosses' office. What was she doing here? And why was she going to talk to the boss?
