Vanessa POV
"Why's it so dark in here? Where's the switch!"She asked as soon as we walked into my apartment. I could hear her running her hands along the wall, trying to find the switch that turns the lights on and off.
"No, don't turn it on!"I screamed. "Why not?"She asked, stopping in her tracks. "Because, just don't. The darkness is my happiness."I replied.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're crazier than I am. You nocturnal whore!"She laughed. "You must don't get out anymore, like you used to, huh."
"No, I don't. I stay in the house all day everyday. That's if I'm not at work."
"Girl, If you'on liven it up a bit in here!"She flicked the switch and the light came on, brighter than I expected it. "Turn it off!"I cried, covering my face.
"Vampire head ahh!"
I rolled my eyes. "Oh my god!"She screamed.
"What?"I asked.
"I'm just noticing that you cut your hair! It was so long, whyyy did you do that?"She whined. "I needed a change when I moved here."I simply stated. "Bitch, you bald,"She mumbled. I side eyed her.
"Says the girl with tracks in her hair."
"Girl stop playing, my tracks cute as hell."She patter her head.
"My hair is too,"
"I know. You gonna grow it back out?"
"I don't know. I like it like this."I answered. She nodded as she turned on the television in the living room. I found a beautician, the same one that used to do my parents' hair when they lived down here. Well, not her, her daughter does my hair, but it's just as good as her mother. She cut it, styled it for me and colored it. It's black and has been black for the past four years.
"Girl it's so quiet and dark in here..."
"I know, just how I like it."
She turned to face me. "But... don't you ever get bored or lonely?"She asked.
"Bored yes, lonely no. I'm content with being by myself all of the time. I do be bored though, but I solve that by just driving around or eating."I explained.
She nodded again. "Found anybody new around here? When was the last time you had sex?"She continued to throw questions at me about my "bored and lonely" lifestyle but that was okay.
"No, I haven't found anybody new. I told you I don't leave my house."
"I'll take that as a no, from sex."She mushed her lips together. "We should go out tomorrow night. Get you some fresh air. Do you know any clubs around here?"She asked but I just gave her a blank stare.
"I'll take that as a no..."She sighed, pulling her phone out. "I'm going to look up hype clubs. You go back there and find something to wear."She instructed but I just sat there.
"I don't have any dressy clothes."I told her.
"Girl, you really got no life here."She mumbled. She got up from the couch and went towards the back.
I followed her to my room and watched as she looked through my small closet.
"All you wear is black and scrubs. No! No! I can't live like this, Dream, you can't live like this."She cried.
"I've been living like that for–,"I started but she cut me off by speaking.
"Too long! I'm about to get you out there. Getchu a life because you obviously lost it when you left Detroit."
