I woke up to see a text from Michael.

He had changed my name to "n0rd" about three months ago. I haven't changed it since then. It reminds me of him.

I flung open the door and engulfed him in a hug. I'm pretty sure we would've fallen, if it weren't for the fact that he expected it and readied himself right before.

"Hi," he said, laughing.

"Hello!"

"Are we gonna do something or just hug here?"

"I'm fine with either," I told him, squeezing a little tighter.

"Can we hug inside?"

"Oh. Sure!"

I pulled him by his hand inside. I didn't know where this newfound confidence came from, but it felt good. I could hear Michael giggling from my excitement, but when I looked back, I discovered that he was blushing like mad.

"Do you wanna play something?" I asked as I sat down on the couch.

"D-Do you wanna j-just talk?"

"Sure," I told him, smiling. He smiled back. "Can you go get the beanbags from my room?"

He nodded and went upstairs. He was back down in a few seconds with only one.

"Do you need me to go get the other one?" I asked, already getting up.

"N-No-" He took a breath in to ground himself. "I thought we could share one.~"

(Michael's POV)

I loved watching his face turn red after I said that. I set the beanbag down and left a good amount of space for him. He shuffled over and laid down next to me.

"S-So, you like me?" he asked.

"Who doesn't like their friends?" I teased.

"N-No, I meant-"

"I know what you meant, Jer. Yes."

"Oh, okay. Cool."

"Are you o-okay with that?"

"Yeah, of course! Actually, I-" he paused. "Never mind."

"What?"

"Nothing-"

"Jer..."

His face was burning red by this point. I had to choke down my laughter.

"It's okay, you don't have to say whatever-you-were-gonna-say if you don't want," I told him.

"Thanks."

"Do you wanna play something now?" I offered, wanting to change the subject.

"Sure," he replied. He loosened up at this and appeared less tense. Nice job, Michael! Good save, Michael! Thanks, Michael! No problem, Michael!

"Apocalypse of the Damned?" he offered. I nodded, smiling.

"As users, we have fought together for years," I said as he was setting up the game. "Both Nintendo zombies and our popular peers."

He laughed. "Can't get more true than that."

He sat back down and we started playing.

"Y'know, I heard that video game geeks are the cool ones in college," he told me as our characters entered the next room.

"That sounds like something I would say," I remarked with a chuckle.

"True."

"Hey, uh, quick question?"

"Shoot."

"What was, uh, having a SQUIP like?" I asked.

He froze. I paused the game for him.

"I don't want to talk about that," he said slowly and carefully. His tone seemed a bit stern.

"S-Sorry."

"Those," he paused. "Were the worst weeks of my life."

"Really? They even beat when you moved? Or when you broke your leg?"

"Absolutely."

"Wow," was all I could say. "I'm so sorry, Jer."

"I-It's fine," he replied, shaking his head to bring himself back to reality. "It's in the past now."

"Yeah..."
