Aelin kept pacing, wearing down the carpet in their bedroom. Rowan watched her, flames like a cape behind her.
"What's the matter?" Rowan asked.
She scrubbed her face. "I am tired. I have had meetings after meetings about how to prevent our people from starving. How to stop us from being a poor kingdom."
Rowan reached for her hand. "It is sorted now. We have attained enough money now. Dorian sent us some as a gift." Not so much a gift, more like returning what had been stolen.
"I'm tired," Aelin repeated.
Rowan pulled her onto his lap. He stroked her long hair. "What if we take a break?"
Aelin shook her head. "I can't. I am the Queen."
"We could say it is to inspect the manor," Rowan suggested.
Aelin hummed as she thought about it. Winter was pretty much here but the journey to the manor house would be easy for them with their fae forms. But Elentiya couldn't come, she was too vulnerable even with her fae body.
"Lysandra and Aedion could look after her," he said.
She shook her head. It wasn't fair to give them the extra work of taking care of their daughter.
Rowan sighed, biting back a growl. "Perhaps... Fenrys could help out. Help her train whilst we are away."
Aelin raised an eyebrow at him. She hadn't stopped to think that he might be tired too.
Aelin nodded. "I want to bring Fleetfoot."
Rowan smiled at his wife. "A winter escape then."
She raised her fingers, flame encircling them. "At least we won't be too cold."
Rowan huffed a laugh.
