The servants had packed up and gone home just before winter had arrived. They had the entire manor to themselves, along with Fleetfoot.
Aelin unpacked her clothes as Rowan unpacked the food. They then sat down over a bowl of steaming stew, Fleetfoot curled by Aelin's feet.
The snow had begun falling all around them. Terrasen smelt even more like home in the winter months...more like Rowan.
He raised an eyebrow at her. What?
She shook her head. Nothing.
After dinner, they went to Aelin's parents old chambers - the shrine for those who fought and bled for their kingdom.
There were metal plaques hanging on the walls from the ceiling to the floor. It had many, many names inscribed on them. Every inch of the walls were covered. Aelin sighed with relief as there was no way Rowan could tattoo all of those innocent people onto her body. Her throat closed up. How many innocents had been hurt because of the wildfire running in her blood - because Erawan hunted her for that.
Never again, she told herself. There was a wall in the far room where a chest with candles sat upon it - Right where her parents huge bed had been sat against.
Aelin lit a single candle in honour of all of those names on the walls - and those who's names had not been remembered because their entire families had been killed.
Rowan clasped a hand on her shoulder. He kissed her cheek. "Fireheart," he whispered.
She turned to smile up at him and placed a hand on his tattooed cheek.
"I love you, Mrs Whitethorn." He gripped her hand.
"I love you, Mr Whitethorn." She kissed him and then pulled back. "Lets go for a walk. You should feel right at home in the snow."
Aelin hated training in the snow all those years ago with Chaol - eight years ago she had been an assassin, denying her bloodline.
But since she met Rowan...she no longer minded the snow.
"I don't need the snow," He whispered. "You are my home."
She nudged him. "Buzzard."
"Brat," He flicked her nose like he had the first time years ago.
"Brute."
"As King, I demanded a kiss," he murmured and pulled her closer.
She chuckled. "As Queen, you'll have to catch me first."
She darted out of his arms and sprinted out the room and down the hall. She laughed as Rowan's growl hit her ears.
She raced downstairs and towards the gardens, Rowan behind her. A flash of light then-
A loud cry.
A white tailed hawk soared through the air above her.
Sorry it's a bit late I wrote and saved it but for some reason most of it got deleted. This is close enough to the original as I can remember.
