I am really sorry for the late update. Work has piled high since I came back from holiday and then birthdays have gotten in the way. Anyways, here's an update to keep us going.

Aelin was running through the trees, the snow crunching under her boots. Rowan had decided to cheat and fly ahead in hawk form. He let out a sharp cry just to tease her.

Her heart was pounding as the world flashed by. Every step she took melted the snow. Her blood was heating, her magic growing more demanding.

She let out short blasts of her fire. Rowan circled round and shifted until he was running beside her. He used his magic to put out her flames.

"What's wrong, Fireheart?" Rowan asked as they ran, their fae hearing making it possible to hear each other.

Aelin gasped as her stomach burned. She stumbled over a tree root and fell. She rolled with the impact and got back to her feet, but Rowan was there grabbing her arm.

He halted her. His green eyes boring into hers. "What is wrong?"

She shook her head. "Nothing. I don't know." She clutched her stomach and hissed. Her shirt and jacket burnt into ashes around her stomach.

Rowan stared at the spot where her bare skin was shining through in the early evening light. They needed to keep going to get back to Orynth by nightfall. They had another hour and a half to go.

Aelin slumped down in the snow, biting down her scream. She tried using her own magic to stop the burning. It only took the edge of, preventing scarring and blisters.

Rowan used his magic to go into her body and sooth the fire burning inside her. He scooped a handful of snow and placed it onto her exposed skin. It hissed and turned to steam. He repeated it until just cold, white snow lay on top of her.

Aelin closed her eyes and loosed a breath. Rowan placed his forehead against hers and sighed.

"I thought your powers couldn't grow anymore," he murmured.

"We need to get going," she said and kissed him.

"Are you able to run?"

She shot him a look to show him that was a stupid question since they both had been through much, much worse. He nodded and helped her to her feet.

She raised her hand. Ready. She swiped it down. Go. They dashed through the woods, heading for home.

"You've been training all day," Fenrys said to Elentiya. "Why don't we go find Uncle Aedion and Auntie Lysandra and have some dinner?"

Elentiya shook her head. "I don't want to." She wiggled her fingers and the water in the lake rippled.

Fenrys shook his head, smiling. "Just like your mother. Can you make a wave and hold it in place?"

Elentiya waved her hand and the water arched in the air. She sharply halted her hand and the arch of water paused with her, waiting for her command.

"It's beautiful," Fenrys murmured.

Elentiya giggled. She made another wave join the one she was holding. "It looks like a heart!" She clapped and the waves splashed back into the lake.

"Do you want to make an even bigger wave?"

Elentiya nodded and scurried up to Fenrys and took hold of his hand. "Show me, show me, show me."

"Ok," he chuckled. "It will hurt for a second and then you can make waves." He wouldn't mention that it might not work.

She pulled on his arm in excitement. He pulled out the smallest knife he had on him. He took one of her small hands and held it out, palm up.

A blast of wind threw him backwards.

"Put the knife down," Aedion growled.

Rowan stood, his chest rising and falling. Lysandra and her husband stood behind him. Aelin was moving slower than normal behind her court. Fenrys let the knife drop. He couldn't understand how Aelin hadn't burnt his ass before Rowan could get to him.

Fenrys put his hands up in surrender as Rowan crept forward with Aedion, both of them growling.

"Do not touch my daughter," Rowan snarled. "Do not raise a knife to her."

Lysandra let out a small whimper and despite the threat in front of him, Fenrys glanced over to the shifter.

She was on her knees beside the Queen, who was now silently screaming. Her whole body was on fire. He looked away when he saw her clothes burning away.

Aedion clapped Rowan on the shoulder. Rowan took one last glance at Elentiya and Fenrys before he turned to help his wife.

Rowan hissed as he touched his mate through the flames. Her body was no longer visible through the flames but from the way the bundle of fire was shaking, he was pretty sure that Aelin was convulsing.

Elentiya was trying to summon the lake water towards her mother, but at her young age it would be difficult because her power would grow as she did. Fenrys ignored his King's order and picked up his knife.

Elentiya, already facing him, held out her hand voluntarily. He gently sliced her palm and then abruptly cut his own. He clasped her tiny hand in his, their bloods mixing.

A shock went through his body as their magics danced against each other before becoming one. She slowly spiralled into his power.

"Breathe," Fenrys whispered to Elentiya. "Breathe and control. Breathe and control."

Elentiya squeezed her eyes shut. Every single drop of water in the lake rose up into the air. Anyone else would have been terrified and so would have Fenrys if he hadn't found it the most wonderful thing he's ever seen in his life - including every dramatic way Aelin has used her fire.

Elentiya turned with her eyes closed, sensing where her mother lay in excruiating pain, the whole body of water following her like a loyal servant. Fenrys watched as Elentiya took a deep breath. She opened her eyes. The body of water rushed down in the fastest and heaviest wave of what look liked rain that ever existed.

The others were instantly flooded.

They were gasping for air but-

"It worked!" Elentiya clapped, jumping up and down.

Aelin was indeed lying soaking wet on the ground, her naked body covered by Rowan's cloak. Lysandra held the Queen in her arms as the King whirled on him.

"I ordered you not to raise a knife to my daughter - to not touch my daughter," Rowan said, charging towards him, fists clenched. "I could have you for treason-"

"If he hadn't helped save our Queen," Aedion calmly pointed out from behind him.

"Look what I did!" Elentiya cried, running up to her father. "Did you see? Did you see?"

Rowan scooped her up and stroked her hair. "We all saw. We are proud of you." He kissed her head and placed her back on the ground. He turned back to Fenrys, chin raised. "If it had gone wrong, if it hadn't saved my wife, you would be dead already."

Fenrys looked away and quietly said, "I know."

He hadn't wanted to disobey his King - his friend, but Elentiya was so determined to use her powers to help, Aelin needed saving, and there was no other way. The princess needed more power and he had plenty to spare. But now he had his answer to the question that had been eating away at him these past few years.

He and Elentiya were carranam and so much more.

Thanks guys! I hope this longer chapter makes up for the delay. Sort of made it up as I was going along. Thanks again Tidela471 for helping me out. I'll update again when I can.
