Starlight and Trixie walked around the town. Starlight showed her around. Trixie wasn't impressed. She wasn't really paying attention to anything Starlight was saying. All she could think about was how Double Diamond was following and watching them. At a distance though. Starlight hadn't seemed to notice.

"You see, having special talents just separates people," Starlight said. "Somepony will think they're better than others. Or they'll choose to spend all they're time on their cutie mark and less time  with their friends. But if you don't have a special talent, than you can't ruin your friendships."

"Wait," Trixie said, stopping in her tracks. "You all chose to live without your special talents?
Just for friendship?"

"Well, yes."

"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!" Starlight was surprised by Trixie's outburst. "Friendship isn't everything you know. There is more to life then hanging out with friends." Starlight was sensing a bit of bitterness in Trixie's voice.

"I'm guess friendship failed you." Trixie turned her head away. "Any chance, could it have had something to do with your cutie mark?" Trixie was getting annoyed. Here this pony was, pretending like she knew Trixie. But at the same time, she was right. It had been because of her talent that her friends had stopped talking to her. Well, kind of.

"It wasn't because of my cutie mark. They said I was too... what's the word? Self centered."

"Were you always that way?" Trixie thought about her past. She realized something. But she didn't want to admit it.

"No..."

"So, when did it start?" Trixie hesitated.

"When I... got my cutie mark." Trixie looked to the ground.

"Hmm." Starlight stepped closer to her.

"Well, I was always like that. But it got worse after I got my cutie mark." Starlight lifted Trixie's head up to look her in the eyes. Trixie felt defeated. She pushed Starlight away. "Look, you know nothing. Stop acting like you know my whole life story!"

"Whoa, calm down. I wasn't trying to upset you." Starlight felt kind of bad. Trixie sighed.

"I think I should get going." Trixie turned to go. Starlight rushed in front of her.

"Wait. You just got here. And I'm sure you've traveled a long way. Why not stay for the night?" Trixie didn't want to. But her hooves were killing her and it wasn't like she was wanted anywhere. Ponies usually tried to get her to leave as soon as possible. She was kind of surprised that Starlight was making an effort to get her to stay. Made her feel welcomed somewhere for once. But she knew what Starlight was doing.

"You don't want me here. Trust me. I've done... things. I really should be leaving." Trixie attempted to walk around Starlight.

"No one will judge you for your past here." Trixie stopped. She considered it. She liked the thought of her past being in the past. That's what she had been trying to accomplish since she left ponyville. She could start a new life here. But she wasn't pleased with the idea of giving up her cutie mark.

"Fine. I'll stay for a bit longer." Starlight smiled.

"Great!" Double Diamond finally approached them.

"Excuse me Starlight," Double Diamond started. "But I have some things I'd like to discuss with you." Starlight looked at him, annoyed.

"Is this important?" He nodded. "Fine. I'll talk to you later, Trixie. Why not go and check out some stores or get some food?" Starlight and Double Diamond walked away towards Starlight's house. Trixie sighed. She decided to take Starlight's advice and check out some things around the town. And also get some answers. She refused to believe people were actually happy here.

She walked to the nearest clothing store. All they had was the same outfit. She knew that if she were to live here, she'd have to give up her cape and hat. And probably have to wear that instead. That wasn't happening.

She realized she hadn't eaten anything all day, so she went to go get some food. There didn't appear to be any signs that made it clear what was what. She saw someponies sitting at tables eating muffins. She sat down at a table near a house. A pink pony with a magenta mane came out of the house with a muffin. She set the muffin on the the table across from Trixie. There was a blue pony sitting there. The pink pony noticed Trixie and walked over to her.

"Hi there," said the pink pony. "We have muffins. Would you like one?" Trixie nodded. The pink pony walked away and came back with a plate that had a muffin on it. "Here you go." Trixie took a bite. She immediately spat it out.

"This is not a muffin," Trixie complained. "This is dirt."

"Sorry. That's the best I could do."

"Then why are you the one cooking? Isn't there somepony who is better?"

"Well, I use to be a backer. So they gave me this job. It would have tasted better... if I still had my cutie mark..."

"You don't need a cutie mark to cook something edible." Trixie got up. "Watch. I'll show you how to make muffins. And by the way, this cutie mark is in no way about backing. Just magic." Trixie walked into where the pony had come from. The pony followed. She walked over to the kitchen area. "Get the ingredients."

Trixie was displeased with the limited ingredients she had. She had to go to her wagon to get some things. The pink pony and her continued to make muffins. The pink pony seemed pleased to not have to only go with the ingredients the town provided her with. While they waited for them to cook, they started talking.

"Thanks. The town doesn't have these kind of ingredients. So I've been stuck with making dirt muffins. By the way, what's your name?"

"Trixie. Trixie Lulamoon. I usually say the great and powerful all loudly, but I'm too tired for that."

"Oh. Well nice to meet you Trixie. I'm Sugar Belle." There was silence. The two weren't really sure what to talk about.

"I've got a question."

"What is it?"

"I need you to answer honestly. Are you happy without your cutie mark?" Sugar Belle didn't know how to respond. Honestly, no. She was miserable. But if anyone were to find out, she'd be in trouble. She looked around. No pony seemed close. She got closer to Trixie and lowered her voice.

"No. I'm not. I wish I still had my cutie mark so I could make better muffins."

"Than why don't you get it back?" Sugar Belle bit her bottom lip.

"I-I can't. I just can't."

"Why not?"

"I-I can't talk about this." Sugar Belle kept looking around.

"Sugar Belle." She looked at Trixie. "Where is your cutie mark?"

"Look, I really shouldn't be talking about-" Trixie took a step forward, startling Sugar Belle.

"Where is it?"

"It's in the cutie mark vault. Somewhere up a mountain. " The timer they had set for the muffins went off. Trixie got the muffins and put them on the stove.

"Sugar Belle, I'm gonna get your cutie mark back." Sugar Belle froze.

"W-what? No! Don't do it. Just get out of here. Get as far away from the town as possible." Trixie shook her head. A new thought came to mind.

"I can't. It's not right that your forced to live without it. Besides, if I were to free the village from Starlight's reign, then it would redeem my reputation. I could tell everypony about this. And with you all as witnesses, they'll believe me. I could fix everything. Up the mountain you said?" Sugar Belle shook her head.

"You really don't know what your getting into." Trixie took a muffin and bit into it.

"I know what I'm doing. Don't worry Sugar Belle. I'm gonna free you all and redeem my name!" Trixie ran out of the house and toward the direction Sugar Belle had said.
